!st season in my 21' sportcabin and I'm seeing stars from smacking my head. You think it would take once, maybe twice to learn a lesson but i did it again last night. I'm 6' 2" and most of the time it's getting thru the door and into the cabin that gets me. Do any of you taller guys pad the frame or even the ceiling for that matter? Or do you eventually learn a painful lesson and remember to duck?

Know the feeling, 6'2" here also. Ive got into the habit of putting my hand on the top as I go in.

Might check the old posts also. There was a guy on the forum that used foam pipe insulators to pad the top.

Dear Reefman;

I am 6'-1" & had the same problem. Take a piece of 1/2" copper pipe

foam insulation the type that is split down the center. The first thing you

do when you get on boat is put it on IT STAYS ON FINE! JUST REMOVE

TO CLOSE DOOR.

That metal edge on the door can be killer.

After banging my head twice, I put a piece of pipe insulation at the end of the roof fiberglass. It is enough of a signal to my slow brain to duck going in the door with my 6 ft. 3 in. body. I have not banged my head in the last two years since leaving the pipe insulation in place. It is already slit and has enough glue on it to not need anything else to hold it. Cheap to try to see if it works for you. .................Pete

I use a piece of swim noodle in bright orange. Get the hollow type and cut to appropriate length and split one side with a sharp knife along it's length.

That is a problem I will never have to worry about, im short and fat, on the other hand if anything I might have trouble hitting the sides of the door.

She's a headbanger! Usually happens when I'm really tired. Last time I really saw a lot of stars. Sure wakes you up fast.

Like Claymar I started putting my hand on top and it mitigated the problem.

don't do it anymore, but when i did, i noticed i was always wearing a ball cap when it happened.

after a thorough briefing about watching your head, my visiting MIL (never listens) about knocked herself out. don't like her much.......had a hard time to keep from chuckling a bit.....now that would have been a disaster. :shock: 8)

Funny you should say that Jim, I was at a local bait and tackle today and a guy said that there were so many stripers around that you could probably troll your mother-in -law off the stern and catch fish.

I'm 5'11" and I have hit my head a few times. Usually hit the doorframe on the way in-down. A couple of months ago I hit it going out-up. Just about dropped me to my knees that time. I'm sure glad I can laugh now. Thinking back I can still feel it somehow, ouch.

I'm going to get some of that pipe insulation this week. Thanks for the reminder guys.

Great topic. I have the 2120SC and man do a lot of people hit their head. I always feel bad laughing but well, it's funny. I went through my "learning period".

I haven't had to deal with this problem since I bought my BHM !!!
Could never understand why Parker designed them with such low clearance !
It's just a law suit waiting to happen if you ask me !!!

I spent 15 years on submarines you could always tell the tall guys that had been on subs for a long time. They all walked hunched over even on shore. If you think your parker doesn't have head room try going through the hatches on just about any navy ship. You can always tell the new guys by the gashes on their head. Also the hard hat thing makes it worse until you get used to wearing one. You are about an inch or two taller with that thing on so until you get adjusted you will be knocking your head on everything.
