What can I do to stop barnacles from growing on the bottom of my boat? The hull is completly covered up.I don't know if it's my bottom paint ,I have been using the cpp antifouling paint from west marine.Any help would be appriciated, thanks

We use the boat 2-3 times a week.I would think that is enough to keep it clean

You would think running it that much would do the trick. Most of the time it happens when you leave the boat sit for weeks due to bad weather, vacations, etc. Once they are on just running the boat will not take them off. Have you kept your boat at your present location previuos seasons with no problem?

We used cpp from west marine,we have had problems the last 3 seasons. This year we bought a new boat and i'm not sure what the dealer used.

There you go, since you had no previous problems, The first question to solve is...what did they use? I would call them and see if you can find out. #1 they may have used a hard bottom paint which isn't the best for a boat kept in the water, more for boats that go in and out on trailers. #2 I know you said it was new, or maybe new to you? but was the bottom paint fresh this season, Some ablative paints are not multi seasonal, and must be repainted every season. Even if last years paint job still looks good unless it is a multi seasonal paint it will not perform well a second season. Lastly you really need to find out what they used so that you can make sure that whatever you are going put on top of it will be compatable, if not you can wind up with a real mess, hope this helps, Mike
