I have a 2001 2510 Parker with a Yamaha saltwater series 225. It has never turned up more than 4800 RPMs under load since I bought the boat used several years ago. The bottom is painted and clean. I can make it turn faster by trimming to the point of cavitation. Because of this I do not think it is an engine issue. It has what looks like a stock black 3 blade yamaha wheel right now. I have no idea if the propeller was ever reworked prior to my ownership. You guys seem to be a pretty educated and proud bunch of Parker affectionados who (from what I read) seem to do good research. Has any one got any thoughts on the best propellor for this particular boat?

That is a good starting point. Ideally you would like the engine to turn the max rated rpm, which is probably close to 6,000 with a full load of people, gear, and fuel. Your prop should have the diameter and pitch stamped on the hub. I can promise you that 4,800 rpm is way too low but you may be running trimmed all the way in which will lower rpm. Trim is out until it begins to suck air and then trim in until that stops. What rpm are you getting at that trim?

Proper set up is as much an art as a science. Several things to determine are; whether the engine is mounted too low, as well as the proper prop. At full planning speed have someone look at the cavitation plate, it should be at or better yet slightly above the water line. If not, you need to raise the engine on the transom or bracket. It it is ok, then start looking at the prop. A rule of thumb is, for each inch in prop you reduce, yoy will pick up approximately 200 rpm.

Give us an idea of the prop you are running and we can give advice as to where to start.

If it were an F225 four stroke, that would be true, but a two stroke OX66 225 tops out at 5,500 rpm. 5,100 to 5,400 is GTG for that motor.
FWIW, I have a 17p Merc Mirage plus on my 2520 if that helps at all.

Thanks for all of the input fellows. I have a source that will let me try out a few of the options you have suggested. I needed some kind of baseline to go by and was not sure what my maximum under load RPMs should even be with this boat and motor. I am an old diesel guy who truly believes a free turning engine will live a lot longer and burn less fuel. To me speed is not the ultimate factor. My family and I really enjoy our Parker. I spent a lifetime charter fishing on big boats but I still have that inner spirit that makes me want to keep my stuff right. Keep on writing your thoughts. I enjoy your site!

I have the DV 2510 and used a 15.5 X 17 on a 250 ox66 for 8 years.

225 Mod V should probably spin that same wheel.

Are you sure your firing on all 6 cylinders ?
