Well I finally got another weather window to go out and bloody the decks on my new ride. Started fishing for bluefins mid shore but couldn't find any love. Decided to pull the plug around 930 and venture off to the canyon. I found some beautiful cobalt blue water and set out the spread in 600'. I tolled out to 1200' and began zig zagging across the bottom contours. About 20-30 minutes in the long rigger goes off rigged with a pink/white joe schute bally.
This was truly a demon fish, his first run he took 200 yard of the mono topshot and another 200-250 yards of braid on a Penn 30 2 speed. After clearing the deck the battle was on and this fish never gave up. After about an hour fourty five/ two hours we finally got to stick a gaff in this pig. This fish was every bit of 200 lbs plus as he had a 51.5 girth and 41 squid in his belly. I left the harpoon home that morning as I thought we were going to stay mid shore bluefinning all day................
With only the 2 of us aboard I was able to get another boat who I knew thru a mutual friend to come over and 2 guys jumped on my boat to pull this beast through the tuna door. A BIG thank you to the Get Reel out of West Creek for the help!
