I need to detail my boat as summer is almost here, in the past I have paid to have it done, and never sastified with the end result, so I want to do it myself, I figure I will need a buffer, and body care to point me in the proper direction as to the steps to do it right ! I just figured I wash it, was it and polish the chrome with woddy wax, am I correct in a nut shell !

There was a recent thread on this... but the short answer is - wash well with simple green and bleach to get her squeeky clean...

I polish with a Makita 9227 7" variable speed polisher using wool bonnets.

I start with Woodys Ultra Gloss Restoring Compound

For wax, I've used Colonite, but I've actually had better results with Meguiers.

For the non-skid, I use Woodys non-skid deck wax.

Don't stress... it's easier than you may believe. :)

Last year I used a power washer to get the grim out off the deck and roof of my 2520. It did a great job!

My concern was is this a good idea? I was sure to back off on the pressure to the lowest the machine offered. It worked fine.

Stains I can't seem to remove are the black ones that seem to collect around all of the bases of anything metal attached to the roof......trumpets, hand rails, vhf antenna base etc. I get this black or grayish stain...tried everything but this stuff seems to be permanent......

Simple green and clorox don't even touch it! Anyone see the same thing? Have you been able to get it off?

Steve

Hey look at it this way at the end of year you get the bottom of boat presure washed as long as your not holding that 2300psi nozzle rit up to it!!You will be fine at hoow you did it,just nice and easy no rushing it!!!

Barkeepers Friend is great!
SoftScrub with bleach also works on many stains.

Scrub the stain... let the product sit for 5 minutes... rinse.
Repeat as needed.

Thanks, you guys rock, I bought a buffer/polisher today and will get the stuff and me and my son will do it this weekend, he loves to work with dad, so it does look overwhelming, but so does everything else, and once done, you feel good about it, so I am into another project :) Next is to re due all the wiring in the battery compartment, heat shrink etcccccc :)

I got a nice electric buffer/polisher for about $40.00 and it is a nice one, with what looks like a 6 or 7 inch pad/towels , I have not gotten any wax etc yet, but will at some point tomorrow !

Just to let you know dont get the paste cleaner/wax/polish get the liguid much better easy to work with and that liquid glass goes on so easy comes off real real easy like wiping water off it is awesome stuff!!!you will be amazed with it

I was just reading an artical about the use of a clay detailing system. It was in a magizine under a reader's comment section. The way it is suppose to work is you spray on a liquid that acts as a lube for the clay then you rub the clay over the finish of the boat flipping and folding the clay from time to time. Then you finish off with a coat of wax. There are supposedly a few manufacturers that make this but they refered to Mothers. I stopped at Pep Boys and bought it. I will try it out next week end and let you know how it works. It is supposed to be like majic. Does anyone have any experiance with this?

Oh yea the clay bar is good as well and if you have scratches in the boat it takes them out for the most part, and mothers products are very very good but meguiers has top of the line stuff, mother is rite up there with them for sure the liquid on both mothers and meguiers is the best easy to do and you will be done in no time at all
