We are currently looking at a 21se that has had her bottom painted, and since we trailer every where I am concerned if this could end up being an issue ? the bottom paint was applied in 2011, and since we have never owned anything with bottom paint, any insight from the forum would be helpful. thanks; mike boat.

Don't let it scare you off. Not really an issue, sure its nice to see one with our ever being painted.
Ask the owner directly if any work, repair, or patching has been done to the hull?
You should get down and dirty and really look at the hull all over, you could ask to wipe some off with paint thinner
if really concerned about whats under the paint.
You can trailer with paint, ablative paint will wear off and then you could repaint with a hard coat or boat coat or even take it back to like new if you have the money and time.
Good luck.

Did that ONCE ... boat looked better than new ... but NEVER again!

I will say hand stripping/sanding with power tools does make it look better than even soda blasting, but man-oh-man its a lot of grungy work!

If a boat sits in the water all the time..... It will need bottom paint. But if it’s living on a trailer, lift or Dry Stack you don’t want bottom paint. It’s Ugly and will slow the boat down slightly.

Now this is the first one I’ve stripped the bottom paint on. I knew it was a Bitch to do. Some would say Soda Blast it, but I’ve seen the rough surface that it leaves. It’s Great for repainting, but not to have a factory baby bottom smooth.

I ran the numbers.... It’s worth every bit of $4K to do this job.

2 guys @ $100hr for 24hrs.... + $100 to set it on stands.... + $100 to drop it off the stands back on the trailer.... + $17 day for yard fee.... + 5gals of Stripper @ $65gal.

Mike, just bought a new parker 2320, had bottom painted after doing a lot of research. I did not know about Parker Classic or would have checked here also. My boat will be in the water more then not. I have been told and read that if its in the water most of the time, meaning moored up, it will need to be re-painted about once a year and that runs about $20 a foot to paint. To paint the bottom of mine will run about $400 to $460 unless I do it myself. Good luck! Angus.

probably depends on where / what type of water your in but with my 2510 I was getting away with full bottom paint one year then the next year spot sand and spot paint only. Alternating years worked and I would put in April 1 and pull her in December.

We are in the same area and that is generally what I get. Every-other year with a touch-up in between.
On occasion, I've even gotten 2 years from a bottom before having to re-coat during some years of little growth.

The area where you live has a lot to do with it.

thanks everyone that responded. It looks like we would be doing some sanding to say the least! The boat will be used in mostly fresh water, and trailered to Fl . once per year to the intercoastal. We will use all of the input provided by everyone to make a fair bid to the sellers , and with any luck, bring her home and get started. thanks again
