Cost of raising motor?

I've been told by Prop Gods and a few others that I should raise my motor a hole or two. When I had the 100 hour service done, I asked about that and the tech made it sound like it was going to be a real pain in the a)) and expensive.

I'm now thinking he just didn't want to mess with it. I can't do it myself as my boat is on a lift and I don't have a trailer, much less a hoist.

For those of you who HAVE had their motors raised by a dealer or mech, what was involved and what did it cost?

All I can tell you is when I bought my 2006 2300 CCDV it came from the Parker factory on the second hole from the top (one hole up),this to me tells me that Parker knows that engine should be mounted a little higher and di something about it.

It should be easy if you can get it on a trailer.

FWIW I raise and lower outboards ALL the time and I’ve never used anyone to do it, like with a crane or bucket loader or what have you..

1) Put boat on trailer, lower tongue all the way
2) Have a helper or two handy!
3) Block up the skeg of the OB with hardwood blocks
4) Loosen and remove the 2 top bolts that go through holes in the OB motor bracket
5) Loosen the2 bottom bolts that ride in the slots on the OB power bracket that affixes to the hull or hull bracket
6) S L O W L Y crank UP on the trailer tongue
7) Get 1 bolt in where needed and then you might need to jostle it to get the other in

Works slick! I do it all the time and have moved my V6 up 2 holes by myself.

No cables to move around, no 4200 or silicone to deal with, nothing? They made it sound like it was some major job.
 
Nothing ... only attention is two-fold ... the motor doesn't fall off and no one gets hurt ;) !

As stated, I once raised mine 2 bolt holes my myself. 'Leverage' is a wonderful tool, just stop and think how the Egyptians or Romans would do it :D . If I were closer, I'd do it for you.

Now, I have also taken a boat that was on a trailer to one of those self-car wash thingies ... on a rainy day to boot! We hooked a come-along to the I-beams in the ceiling and even swapped out motors! Free ,,, and being a rainy day ... no one was there but us ;) . But for this I have the engine hoist attachment that attaches to the flywheel ...
 
I've done it Dales way, but also have used a big eye bolt into the top garage door frame to hold the motor from the top instead of the bottom. Once I used the neighbor kid's swing set and a come-along. Now I do it the easy way thanks to a weak moment at Harbor Freight (got a 'last one, floor model' fully assembled for $89).

With the Armstrong Bracket you have to caulk the lower holes to be sure the tub doesn't fill up with water.

Other than that it should not be that big of a deal, having it on the lift makes it harder though.

How about hiring someone to come with a small excavator to hoist it up wile you put the bolts in?? Maybe not.. :D :D :D 8)
 
Larry, you can borrow my trailer if you need to. It's for a 23' but would probably work for very short distance. It would take some coordinating and I'd probably need to leave my boat at your dock (I'm not on the water), but if you can't find another way I'm open to giving it a try.

That's a very generous offer. Thanks! For now, I've decided not to screw with it.

I'm not sure if it boils down to a mpg thing. I've read that it has more to do with bow attitude and performance.
 
It should cost about $100.00. My buddy has his done two weeks ago, and it was $100.00 even. Takes about 45 minutes if you have the right equipment. I'd call around to different dealers and ask. It's a VERY simple job.
