I have a 96' 2320 in really good condition. The only thing i dont like about the boat is the cut transom. Seeing the new ones I am nothing but jealous haha. I was just wondering if anyone has ever closed the transom and added a bracket/ what a ball park cost would be. Or would i be better off trading up. Thanks.
 
Seems like a lot of hassle and money which you won't get back when you sell.

Mine has a bracket. I wonder if your boat rides better than mine because the motor is shifted forward...

Idk, maybe rides better, probably doesnt float better. With a full tank my scuppers are under water and waves from the stern are not good... so much so ive thought about putting in an on deck bilge as well.

I've got a 2003 2520 XLSC with 300 Yamaha on a bracket. I found that in a head sea I need to trim the bow down a fair bit more than when in a small chop. That has improved the ride significantly. I've got the modified V hull so she tends to pound if I don't get that bow down. I don't trim all the way in but not too far from it.

Thoughts on spending the money to do it? Is it worth it? I would not be able to do it myself.

If you can't do it yourself.....Obviously it will be more. Guessing $12K
Here on the Gulf Coast I would not have a cut transom.....for reasons you describe.
 
I helped a buddy install a bracket on a defiance 22’. Make sure you pay attention to the shaft length and engineer enough floatation.
Also. Reinforce the bracket around the motor plate, they can crack while towing (small cracks).

Mine has an open ransom but has a nice fiberglass shield to keep the water out. Also my scuppers have the little enclosed ping pong balls that don’t let water back in the scupper when where lower in the water. My deck stays dry. I’m on the west coast. F1D8E141-FEA5-4754-B548-CA990DA0D1E1.png
 
Reading these posts it occurs to me that there are a lot of Chuck Barris enthusiasts among the members. It's
not a bad thing of itself and you can learn a lot by tinkering. However, it should be recognized that you can't
make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and there are limits to reverse engineering by the backyard boat
enthusiast. Obviously some of you are better equipped by having the experience and the tooling to give it
a fair go. I have a 2016 2120 SC with only 69 hours total. I will shortly put it up for sale as part of my general
liquidation of a fair share of my earthly possessions.It's just not fun anymore!
 
The boat market's hot right now... I'm sure plenty of people would be more than happy with your notched transom, so you might be fine selling the boat to upgrade to a bracket, but then need to find a way to not get killed in buying a bracketed boat...

Besides a changed ride and safety in heavier seas, are there other reasons for adding a bracket to a boat? (asking for my own knowledge)

Not sure a 2016 is quite same as the older models with an open notch. The notch is closed off with the built in bait tank.
Out on the west coast I’ve seen the factory bait tanks removed and new tank located forward for better weight distribution - awesome modification.

It would give me more storage/room for a live well that i would like to add.

That fiberglass stopper is much nicer than mine, i have a door that flips up and down but really does not block that much water. Its also frustrating because you have to put it down to be able to tilt the motor up. Did your boat come with that? Or was that an aftermarket

Wow i havent seen that before. I dont hate that although it looks like it takes up alot of deck space. It came built with that seat insert/bracket?
 
we like big bait tanks out here (40-50 gallon), the stock tanks are never big enough

Call the local glass guys. Enclosing a transom seems cheap in FL with some saying $2500 to 5000 (not on this site). Where I live in SE Va, one of the respected glass guys wants $4500 for a new notched transom, 2500 more to enclose it, plus price of bracket & labor to install it. The new transom would be Coosa, not wood.
