Who among you has a BLACK tow vehicle or car? What product do you use to minimize or eliminate the swirl or surface scratch marks to the clear coat which stand out like a sore thumb on BLACK painted surfaces ????

Just asking. Don't tell me to use a mikata or wool bonnets or any of that stuff. I am interested in the product that you use.

Have you tried 3M Imperial Hand Glaze?

I would call some car detailers for tips and post an update

Haven't tried that but with the WEALTH of knowledge on this board, who needs a friggin car detailer..... :D

We've got more guys here that have tried more products on more surfaces than any place I can think of.

I use dirt.

Just leave it on there. Hides the scratches real well.

you don't know Larry very well do you?

3M makes products for all types of issues. Fiberglass Coatings has them. Believe it or not sandpaper and a buffer will get out just about anything in the clear as long as you don't burn through.

Yeah, I've heard you say that but I just don't have the guts to use an abrasive sandpaper, even if it is 2400 or 3000.

I might have to break down and buy one of those Mikata multi speed orbitals.....

these products were rec'd by my ford dealer's body shop. www.automagic.com. I have been very happy with their line. My baby has hi flake pearl white metalic, used their clay system for water spots that rusted.
many grades of products, here is one idea:

No. 90A- XP Swirl Remover is formulated with a mild abrasive to help flatten out (remove) swirls left from using wool pads. This extra performance leveling wax has a high shine, wet look finish that will impress the best. VOC compliant.
Size: 16 oz
$8.67 Quantity

3m makes products for dark colors and it works very well.. i can tell you most all bodyshops use 3m go to there website

Any update?
Did you find a better mousetrap (wax, polish)?

Not yet. I tried to buy that Ardex stereo glaze but couldn't find a dealer.

I guess I'll go back and check out the 3M product line. I think my finish needs to be clayed or sanded and I'm just reluctant to do that.

I'm really beginning to dislike the black color. Pain in the A22 to keep clean.

Toyota carries Ardex at most of thier dealers. Other than that it is on eBay. If your paint is really bad you might want to get a wax with color. I have been told it is good for filling in ultra fine swirles...worth a shot before breaking out the wet sander. I too agree black is the best looking color when its new but it is a royal pain to keep it that way.

Agreed 2 black vehicles and never again. Silver and white from now on. Meguires clay bar works well. I remember after detailing my black vehicles yelling at people for closing the door by pushing on the painted part. Then id have finger prints. Really pissed me off.

I'm with ya gw204. The last time I washed my '91 4-Runner was Christmas 2007. I even got mad at the inspection guy when he wiped the dust off of my dashboard to put my decal on the windshield! I may have it detailed before I pass it on to my oldest daughter but I have 4 years to plan that, we'll see.
