We have a 2007 Yamaha 225F with 70hrs... Ran out to the bay(10 minute ride) then put 4 lines in and began to fish. But about 20 minutes later the buzzer goes off and the gauge says the engine is overheating... water was coming out of the peehole but not very strong...when going faster the water comes out much harder and did not have any buzzer issues... We came back in and used the flush system and took her out for another ride but at slow speed the buzzer went off again....Time to call the dealer!

You could have a couple of issues here...

If the motor is new to you, and you do not not know how she was cared for previously, there are several things to consider.

1.) When is the last time that the water pump and cooling system were serviced? Water pump, thermostats, poppits... all are important.

2.) Has the motor been fresh water flushed regularly?
Some people do not think this is important, but I have a motor that was so salted up when I bought it that the power head had to be removed and the salt dug out of the cooling passages. Lesson learned...

3.) Have you ever given the motor a Salt-Away treatment? That might be the less expensive way to fix a salt problem.

4.) When the overheat condition happened, were you idling or trolling at a low RPM for an extended period of time?

Definitely talk to your dealers service department as something is not right.
