I tried to search for this subject and came up short. I have one season with this OB and would like opinions on how to care for it. I have read lots of suggestions for the Yamahas out there, but see very little on the older OMCs. In the interest of "making it last" what are some things I can do? Should I be concerned about carbon, or salt deposits as other threads have discussed? The motor has about 260 hrs on it.

Thanks in advance for comments.

Dale thanks for your support so far, I wanted to open this up to the group.

Prop her to spin close to max in Spring with 1/2 fuel, 2 guys and tpyical gear carried ALL the time.

Decarb every 50-hours via the SHOCK treatment.

Cruise 3800 to 4200 (will be best MPG) , occasional blasts for fun and spin her WOT on the way back in to burn off 'whatever', fuel your juices, etc ... cruising up to 4800 RPMs OK,

New plugs every 100 hours, but at auto store, gap @ 0.030"

More later ...

The recent suggestions regarding the care and feeding of Yamahas are applicable to all outboards, including OMC's.

I'm guessing yours is an Ocean Runner or Ocean Pro?
Good motors... With care, it should last a long time. (just look at Dales). :)
