anyone operating a 300 of any brand on a 2520 or 2530 looking to repower our 2530 mod v with a single engine.we have been looking at the new yamaha lighter version 4 stroke we were considering replacing single bracket and installing twin motors but now thinking of keeping it to a single engine repower...we currently are running a yamaha ox66 250.....thanks for any replies

IMHO... a 300 Offshore on a 2530 mod vee should be just about perfect.
That is the way I would go.

I have a df300 suzuki on a 1991 25 cc mod v.Avg around 11.5-12 gal/hr at 4400-4500rpms at 34-36 mph.That is with 3 people ,gear and about 60-70 gals of fuel.
The cabin model will propably burn more fuel.

I'm looking at the 300hp Suzuki as a repower option if I keep my boat. I'm not too much of a fan of the big Yam 4-strokes with all of the VST, injector, misc. filter issues, and should we mention exhaust housing corrosion ... that NONE of the other big 4-strokes appear to suffer from.

Good motors, not trying to start a flame fest, but for my $$ ... there are other options.

X2!

I have a new 300hp Yamaha V6 Offshore on a new 2510 XL Walkaround. Only about 14 hours on it so far but it is plenty hp for the 2510. Current flow rate at 4000 rpm is about 11 Gal. / Hr. My biggest issue is getting use to a single engine especially out on the bracket. It takes a lot more planning in docking, backing up and general slow manuvering. Had twin 225's on my Southport 26 and the burn rate was about 18 gal/Hr at the same rpm and could spin that thing in circles without touching the wheel.
One very nice feature on the Yami 300 is the oil filter is right up front with very easy access. I'm told if you leave the motor vertical for a couple hours you can spin the filter off and have very little oil spill.

My 2 cents... I'm running a 2000 yam 225ox66 on my 2000 2520MV. I run my engine between 3700-3900 (19 to 22mph) based on load and sea conditions, burning under 10 gph. With my MV and a 2' chop on the Chesapeake I start pounding over 20mph. My point is, why should I spend the extra $ and carry the extra wieght of a 300hp when your only gonna be able to open it up on flat days. All that being said, I will step up to a 250 when the time comes. Just another view fellas, good luck with whatever path you take and let us know how you make out. Thanks, Ken

250 or 300 would serve you very well. You could expect about 12 g/h or 2 mpg. But great trolling. And on my Zuke better performance than the 2 stroke.

For better docking ... stay a little "under-pitched" on your prop.

the new offshore SERIES IS CLOSE TO THE weight of the old two stroke 250 and over 200 pounds lighter than the previous model of four stroke 300...thias is also why we are looking at the three hundred for repower...thanks for the responses
