I'm currently planning some upgrades to the interior of my console, to include a lot of reorganization of components. Currently it is a mess back there with wiring, harnesses, etc. not properly mounted or just hanging from their wires. I would like to clean this up and secure it to the inside bulkheads of the console, as well as mounting some electronic black boxes and other items. However, I'm noticing that the console fiberglass is very thin in most places, too thin to screw into. I'd like to avoid through bolting so there aren't a whole lot of holes in the console or fasteners sticking out on the outside.

Ideally, I'd like to glue/epoxy some sort of mounting board to the inside surface of the console, to which these items can be secured without risking screws coming through the other side of the console. I'd like to use some sort of synthetic wood, as opposed to actual wood or laying up additional fiberglass. I know that Starboard can't really be glued, but was wondering if there are similar alternatives that can be and what the pros/cons might be.

If anyone has done something similar and would care to weigh in, it would be much appreciated!

I used some HPDE plastic I ordered off of Amazon to make mounts before. I bought some adhesive mounted studs from McMaster and epoxied them to the fiberglass area I mounted it in and bolted it down. By using the studs it was removable and could be removed in the future.

They have them in stainless.

This was the setup I made for mounting a trim tab pump and its control box in an area with no place to mount it. The plastic is actually thick enough to drill and tap. That's how I attached the up right everything is screwed to. I used 1/2" stainless screws to mount the component to the board.
