Read many great post and pic's for high water alarms and additonal bildge pumps on CP. I decided to go with a manual/auto big red light switch to act as a high water alert and to have a pump mounted to battery shelve to hopefully pump out that high water. The Johnson pump was good rec' from the post on CP. Their sensor over float switch solved any mounting probelms. The dealer(and a good one) 3AMarine lined up the thru hulls in height order of the pumps so as to correspond to water and pump height. Rather weird to install a item that I hope a NEVER use.

Ouch ... hope the boat doesn't heel to the port if in a danger of sinking predicament ...

Even if it does, I have no doubt that your system will work just fine. :)
Don't worry... Dale and I have debated this issue before. :D

Wow...easy Reel. I have always seen Dale as a true asset to this web site.. He has helped us all graciously many times!
 
Dale believes that you should have thru hulls on both sides of the boat so if you do take on a lot of water and your thru hull is starting to go down the other side can still pump out. Its his opinion and he feels strongly about this. Hes a very big advocate of safety on his boat almost to the point of overkill but it makes him happy with it. Who knows if the OP would have asked about it before he did the extra pumps maybe dale could have give him his explanation for doing so.

personally, i feel that if youre at the point where one of your thru hulls is underwater, either due to an extreme list or excessive flooding, whatever pump youve installed is probably not going to have nearly enough capacity to make the immediate differernce in the situation that is necessary to save your vessel. but thats just my opinion. but as a reserve pump for normal/storm flooding, it looks like a very tight install! good work.
 
If you put weather loops in your discharge hoses, the position of the exit through-hulls will matter much less. :wink:

It shouldn't. The hose is smooth on the inside (the helix is on the outside), so other than the water left in the headspace after the pump cycles, there really is no reason why it should cut down on the gph rate. Even if it did, I would think the effect would be minimal.

No issues in the 5 past years of use.
 
Hopefully you never have to test it. I end up testing my bilge bump every so often. I have never seen it go off when im out on the boat. Or even have water in there after using the boat
 
All good points and the search feature before doing this project was a great help to review. This is what I took into account:
1.Bottom of my bildge is a V shape(deep V over mod V) water should or could fill V and help act as a centering weight when filled with I am guessing quite a few gallons. yikes.
2. The thru hull for the Hi H20 pump is 30" up from the bottom of the bildge. 10" up from the deck. That is alott of head room to lean before the thru hull is under.
3.If the thru hull is under water do to listing and the pump still working, the water outside the boat will not provide any resistent properties to the water being forced out by the pump thus impeading it's forced flow.
4. At the point the boat is in such a heel, my view will be from the roof of the T-top and we can hang ten surfer style to tilt the boat 8)

Then call the insurance company and get a new Parker, and fish the new reef next year.

Hopefully non of us have to test our crash pumps. 8)
 
Wow, some need to lighten up big time ...

Decision. Add a SAFETY pump. Options, pump out one side or the other.

Doesn't it really kill you to pump it out the other side? And for the record, look at any video of boats sinking, due to winds and waves and water in the hull, the ALL will heel one way or the other.

I don't care that Poge or Megabyte or anyone else puts them out the same side. I'm just glad they didn't use the same exit fitting as some do.

... but why not pump it out the other side ... ?? It might just save someone else's arse some day.
