This gouge came with the boat. Size and extent is pretty accurately depicted in pic.

It is probably 20" above water line on port side in line with the middle of the pilot house.

Is this too big of a task to take on for a first time Gel Coater?

Any advice?

Anyone wanna help? :D

No, send me the $20 and I'll tell you how to do it easy. :D

Seriously, get a dremel tool and grind out everything that is loose. (Don't go deeper than you have to.)
If it is deeper than a 1/4" or so I would fill it with Mat and resin. Then apply gelcoat on top of that, wetsand, reapply if needed, the wetsand and buff to high gloss.

Big spot/little spot all the same process. If it turns out crappy youll do better next time and you can retouch it up when you decide to ram something again. Wont be the first or last scar on your baby.

Ouch! Man that bites!
I can only hope that someone didn't swing a Steel tank into your ride.
Best of luck w/the repair.

OOPPs sorry wrong person!
Still though best of luck with the repair.

I'd probably whine like a lil ****** if that happend to my ride.

Its an easy repair for someone who knows what they are doing and have the tools. I had a very similiar repair made last summer. I purchased about a half-cup of Paker gelcoat from my dealer, then had my marina make the repair.

Remember, you will have to add hardner to the gelcoat.

Here is the kicker, and the reason I am responding. The marina's fiberglass guy inversted about a half-hour total labor time into the repair and it cost me $75.00, + $20.00 for gelcoat. That included compunding and bufffing out the repair to blend it all together upon completion.

It was much easier in my opinion, to hand it over to a professional, then it was for me to try to learn how to do the repair myself.
