I have a thing about keeping my bilge and anchor locker dry. Not sure of the origin of this passion or its cure except to satisfy it. So started with a black wooden plug glued into my anchor locker hatch door (normally always open hole for anchor line) to keep water out of my anchor locker when underway, exposed to rain or when washing the boat. Small hole in bottom of anchor drains into my bilge too.

Covered the small pilot house drain hole with a stainless screen then laid my carpet (commercial building entrance pad) over it.

Cut a piece of PVC pipe, spayed it black and it simply rests on the aft port corner wire raceway tube which has no wires in it in my boat. On the starboard side I wrapped a black waterproof material around the wiring and down to the base of the wire raceway tube and put on a hose clamp to hold it in place.

Took a high pressure hose and sprayed everything down on the outside and checked the bilge and ergo - bone dry. I'll sleep well tonight.

Nice work on picture tutorial. I'm looking to keep the bildge dry on my 1800, first I have to find out how it getting in.

Thanks for posting

The picture of the PVC pipe above shows it about 10 inches long and srayed with black paint. To the right of it is the Parker pipe stub sticking up where it is convenient to run wires forward (all of mine go up the starboard side, none on this port side). This stub pipe would let water into my bilge it I sprayed water near it as I washed the boat.

Next photo down shows the PVC pipe resting on the stub of the Parker pipe. With this PVC pipe in place, I can spray as hard as the hose will spay all over this corner and no water goes into the bilge.

Had to use a wrap on the starbaord side since it was already full of wire so could not slide a PVC pipe over it.

Itsssallllright?

Since I trailerboat, I don't worry about water in the bilge. I just open the drain plug on the way home and let whatever is in the bilge drain out. When I wash the boat, if I have used the anchor, I wash out the the anchor well and let the water flow through the boat and out the drain hole.

I have other things about which to be obsessive! :D
