So, I have a late model Yammi kicker on my bracket. I RARELY use it. In fact, it's only there in case my main power gives out offshore.

I use it just enough to know how to tilt her down, start her, put her in gear and throttle up. Period.

I had her down the other day while doing a little trolling and I noticed that she would kick up if a wave caught the shaft. I was like, WTH? That doesn't seem normal. I would think the motor would be locked in the down position.

So I checked the manual and it doesn't say anything about locking the motor in the down position. It only references locking the motor UP in a tilted position.

Am I missing something?

lots of models are diffrent.. Best look at the locking mec under the motor and figure out how it works. some motors lock only if in gear other have a lock unlock feature..

OK. Yammie Dealer told me today that, there is no lock down feature. It is designed that way so that the motor will tilt up if it strikes something or runs aground.

The reason why mine kicked up was not because I ran aground or struck something but rather because, I have a hi thrust (larger) prop on mine and at idle, if strong current or waves comes along, the large surface area of the prop will raise the shaft.

Makes sense to me. Makes sense to you?
