I'm trying to find the source of a leak in my 2008 21SE. I've owned the boat for two years and every time I run it off shore for a few hours fishing there's always a gallon or two of seawater in the bilge. As part of my post trip maintenance I always sponge out the water so I'm starting each trip with a dry bilge so I know I'm not leaking at the slip. I pulled my boat yesterday for the season and looked over everything (through hulls etc) and can't see anything obvious that could be leaking. I'm wondering if when I'm underway and up on plane, if water is being forced through the rub rail and between the bolt on area between the deck and the hull? Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?

I have the same boat and the only way water gets into the bilge, would be from the anchor locker drain...... I'll get a little after a hard rain or if I hose off the bow area.

If any water got forced past the rub-rail seal, it would run down the inside onto the deck (the exception being the bow area/anchor locker).

Are you running with your live-well seacock open or closed? If open, you could have a leak in the plumbing (gravity drain). I would check all those hoses related to the live-well system. If you run with it closed or don't use the live-well, I'd be scratching my head a bit too :D

These boats are pretty simple, which should make it a little easier to find the issue......

Garboard drain area, raw water pickup for live-well, transducer if you have one, live-well drain. Not much below the water line.

Good luck!

Brad, Thanks for the response. I do run with my seacock open to be able to avail myself of the livewell and raw water washdown. I'll check the plumbing associated with the seacock. Thanks again. John

I had a similar problem on my 2001 23SE. It turned out the livewell drain was leaking where it connects to the hose under the livewell itself. There is an access hole under the livewell for the plumbing to run through and unfortunately this is also over the gas tank. The water was dripping onto the tank and running off into/over the foam around the tank before making its way to the bilge. I may be replacing my tank sooner than most because of this.

If your boat is like mine you will have an inspection plate for the sending unit just aft of the livewell. You can use this to check for water leaking from your livewell, but you'll need to remove the livewell itself to repair the plumbing. If you do remove the livewell, be sure to seal it back in place - you don't want wash water or rain water to leak underneath and on to the gas tank.

Gary, Thanks for the response. The boats out of the water now for the winter, but the live well plumbing one of the first things I'll check in the spring. John

I agree with the others on the plumbing. When I run without a hose connected to my wash down and the valve is open, I will look back and see water running out all over the deck. There is a decent amount of pressure in the lines without the pump on just from the running thru the water. So a loose hose or clamp somewhere could be causing it fir sure. Too bad your not still using it as a quick test would be to just run it with the valve closed and see what happens. Good luck.
