Figured I would post this hear since I didnt get any responses in the introduce yourself forum...

Hi everyone,

Im new to this forum and currently considering the purchase of an 03' 2120. Although I had heard of Parker before I had a chance to check them out last week and loved the open layout and build quality of the boats. The specific boat i am considering has a yamaha 200 4 stroke with less then 400 hrs and looks to be in great shape (after more research I realized these engines can be succeptable to exhaust corrosion, should I be worried?). The asking price is 22k without a trailer. I am planning to use this boat for bay fishing, 7-10 mile offshore fishing trips and occasional 30 mile rides to a local island. Based on what I have seen around this seems to be a good deal as the boat also comes with newer electronics (radar, gps, fishfinder). I would like opinions as to whether this is a good deal and what things to check for. Also will the boat suit my needs well? My last boat was a 1986 wellcraft v20 and i only used it for near shore fishing. How will the ride compare? I know with the forward pilot house you will have extra movement in a head sea but i cant imagine with a 21 degree deadrise it will be too bad. Also, I have gone through the nightmare of removing a leaking aluminum tank from my last boat. I really dont wanna suffer the same fate anytime soon but the fact that there is no fuel access panel on this boat scares me. Any good way to check and insure that the fuel tank is sound? What life span can I expect from the tank given the boat is an '03? Thanks in advance.

maybe but it can be inspected by removing lower unit and using a borescope

Fuel tank will last for many years.
Check the cockpit deck for soft spots and I sealed the seams on mine to keep out mositure

Keeping the tank well ventilated is another option. Dale modified an unused deck pie plate over his tank with a plumbing P trap (cut hole in plate and insert P trap downwards and add adhesive) . ingenious
Maybe do all lids. It is inexpensive
It vents the tank like the crawl space of a home and before boating, remove it and replace with intact lid.

Inspect fuel and vent hoses on a regular basis.

Basically what was said above. Have the motor scoped you will be able to tell if you have the corrosion problem. That year motor is a year they had problems.
My father inlaw has a 2003 2120, I will say his boat rides better then my 2320. The thing is a little tank and plows right through when its snotty.
They are definitely good little boats!

Thanks for the reply guys. How do you think the boat will perform given how I intend to use it? Miky does your dad fish on LIS with the boat? Price seem resonable?

Call your local Yamaha dealer and get a price on what it takes to fix the exhaust corrosion.

Figure that into the asking price and make an offer, once you change out the bad parts, that motor will be bullet proof.

Is the 200 as bad as the 225 as far as the corrosion situation is concerned? Seems as though every thread I read of this problem the owner has a 225? My 21SE has a very low hour 2004 F200 so I guess I will be using a borescope when I pull the lower off for a water pump this spring.

Most of the postings mentions F225 but corrosion can occur in other models .
Your best bet is to scope it your self or find knowledge and honest mechanic to check it

SIM Yamaha has a kit for F200 and F225 for model years 2002 and 2003 located at
http://www.simyamaha.com/YAMAHA_EXHAUST ... -03-00.htm
for $647 plus shipping ($10)

In the past, these parts would cost close $2,000 when purchased separately
