Hi all,

I searched the threads and haven't found the right answer yet so wanted to ask the group for advice. I have a 1997 21 DV CC powered with a 2005 ETEC 200hp and looking to Repower. I am looking at Suzuki and trying to decide between 225 and 250hp. I believe the boats rated for 250hp, but I don't have a capacity plate and in 1997 that would likely have been a two stroke weight calculation? It looks like thew 250hp is 193lbs more than the exec, and the 225 is 173lbs more than the ETEC. The boat is a notched transom. Anyone running a 250hp on one of these same boats? Pic for attention.

Thanks for your help,

I assume you mean 174.3 lbs heavier? Does the current 200 ETEC feel underpowered? The Suzuki (225 or 250) would be a 6 cyl with more torque I would suspect

Yes, sorry I corrected the typo. The current 200hp ETEC with 4 blad prop comes out of the hole quick but cruising is barely 28mph at 4200 rpm when flat and it falls back without running it at closer to 4800 rpm. WOT is 5500 RPM at 33 mph. Feels sluggish. Boat is a tank so a lot of weight to push for its size, and it has the forward seating, which adds even more weight. I don't want to go to the 200hp 4 cylinder. And the current 200hp ETEC is 6 cylinder just like the 225/250 Suzuki.

My 2021 21 DV is rated for 225hp per the capacity plate. I have a Yamaha in line 4 200hp...WOT with 3 people full fuel is 40mph. Does not feel underpowered even with 5 adults
Interesting...

I just called Parker and my boat was rated for 235hp back then. So I guess I will stay with the 225hp or maybe consider the 200hp... Hmmm

Look at mercury. They have amazing power to weight ratios, big displacements. I’d go max hp for the transom, you will never say I wish I had less power
