Towards the end of this season, I noticed my idle in-gear (clutch ahead we call it) was hovering at 500rpm on my yamaha digital tach. The motor still seemed to run ok, and the bottom really wasnt all that dirty (a few barnacles, but nothing major, bottom paint was fresh this spring).

Any ideas what this could be? My clutch ahead should be at least 600-700 was where it was when the motor was new (digital tachs obviously bounce between 6 and 7). I would think it wouldnt be the VST (which hasnt been cleaned in a few seasons)..

any help is appreciated!

you should be able to adjust your idle with a screw. I wouldnt be too worried about it unless its stalling.

I think you would only be lugging the motor if you had it overpropped. I would imagine at rpms that low if the motor was truly lugged it wouldnt be able to produce the power to stay on and stall. But what do i know just a guess.
