Previous owner used the boat on the south shore and it had a few burrs and i decided to file it up and sand it down....(also i rubbed some paint off in the sand delivering my boat last year in the low tide.

Start by using serial number or date of mfg code to get the proper OEM paint

Sand off dirt , grit and any oxidation with 600 grit wet/dry sand paper

File off/debur and resand.

wipe off with a tack cloth/use compressed air

Tape off rear or cover transom with painters cloth to avoid over spray

Yamaha recommends Green zinc chromate primer, apply thin multiple coats till unit is evenly primed allow 20 min to dry in fair temperatures.
(any drips wet sand , reprime and repeat primer)

Use factory OEM for model year , spray thin even wet coat, let dry 20 min,
add second heavy wet coat and let dry 20 min or longer if thick....

(wet sand and drips or heavy spots) let dry , then spray final thin coat....

If you keep your motors out of water then you can skip the clear coat, if not and you store the motors down in water then fork over the expense for the clear coat.

sand paper sheet $1.50
zinc chromate primer $14
OEM paint $25

total time with sanding and drying less than two hours
