Lucanus jigs - worth all the hoopla?

Have been seeing lots of pre-release press on this new Shimano fishing "system". I'm not sure I buy into the whole system (rod, reel, line, jig) but I am interested in how the jigs work on bottom species. Looks like a fun way to make bottom fishing more interesting. An article in the current Saltwater Sportsman mag had them slaying rockfish.

I've got a new Parker hat to the first CP'er who posts a pic of a fish caught with this jig (on a Parker of course!)

My buddy got a nice Hali at SCI 4-28-08 on a Lucanus :shock:

They do work real well on the rock fish. 5 of us killed 68 Reds, 7 Lings, and 2 Salmon Groupers in 7 hours in San Quintin early April '08.

Notice the BIG grouper with the bite marks... A HUGE Ling hitched a ride up and waited to be gaffed

I know these are not on my 2320 :roll: But the Lucanus do work

I forgot to mention that my buddy forked up the $190 for the Lucanus stick. The rest of my fishing buddies and myself did not. The Jigs work great with any longer, tappered, light tip stick running 30# Spectra with a vary minimal leader

I don't know much about them, but apparently Dennis Braid makes what are called Sea Fox and Thumpers....They are the same thing and a lot cheaper.
