Looking at the ongoing thread about mini towers, it raises a question in my mind. The new roof design is great for running LOTS of cables for GPS, radar, lights, etc. But does the new design sacrifice strength? My grandkids love to dive from the cabin roof and I've heard tales of Mr. Parker jumping up and down on the old style roof at boat shows. Is the strength still there? Anybody else concerned?

Some months ago there was another post about the roof strength. At that time I took my 260 pounds up on my 2007 2120 roof which has the great wire run down the center of the roof and I hopped on a numer of areas. Seemed very strong to me. Then when I mounted my electronics I kept the hole saw pieces as I cut in for the radar mast and widened the hole where the ceiling light is inside the boat to have better access.

The pieces I cut had well bonded glass on both sides of the balsa core and good glass fairing in the wire run ally. So looks to this amateur engineer that the wire run alley serves as a beam running most of the length of the roof. Same good glass where I mounted a GPS antenna off of the alley and where I mounted the hailer. One to port & the other to starboard.

No concern on my roof and thanks Parker for the wire runs - fore & aft and cross ship at the rear of the roof...............Pete

thats a good point!! don't forget, with the newer boats, the horns have to be relocated for footspace under the tower.
