This weekend I trouble shot my sticking controls problem. The original issue was that the cabin station shifter was very sticky and the second station would hardly move at all. I disconnected the cable from the cabin to the second station and the second station shifter worked fine. In the cabin the shifter was still a sticky even though the other end of the cable was not even connected. So I disconnected the shift cable on the cabin end and the shifter flopped back and forth easily. Diagnosis get a new cable. I ordered the extreme cable 13' because the yamaha supreme cable was marked as a 13" cable. I will let you know how it goes once the cable comes in.

Sorry it took so long for the update. I replaced the cable from the cabin to the second station with the Xtreme cable. Pain in the A#$ since I hadn't done it before. Should have gotten new cotter pins but I will know next time. Anyway the shifter is really smooth now. One thing I will point out for anyone troubleshooting this kind of problem. With the motor off the shifters are much more difficult to move. Not exactly sure why this is but when troubleshooting your install make sure you fire up the motor and just move the shifter back and forth in idle. It gives you a better idea of how smooth it is and whether you need to adjust.

I had the same problem on my 2008. My problem was the spring loaded check ball behind the handle that clicks the gearshift handle in to neutral so you do not miss neutral and go in to reverse was binding up. I just took out the spring and the check ball and that was the end of that problem. Mine would lock up that bad that I could not get it out of gear at either station because the same control moves both gearshifts. I relly do not understand why you really even need that check ball. I is easy to feel when you are in neutral. So if any one has there gearshift lock up check the spring and check ball.
