MVReplacement of Below Deck Oil Tank Mountings in 2520MV

Greetings:

The mounting mechanisms for the oil tanks in my 2000 2520MV are rusted beyond restoration. Why Yamaha ever used painted carbon steel for these things is beyond me, and I am going to remove and replace them with plastic battery trays and nylon hold-down straps.

This project will require disconnecting wiring and the hoses that feed the oil reservoirs on the engines. In reading what little info that is available in my Seloc publication, I'm wondering if, after everything is re-installed and hooked up, are there any surprises with getting the pumps on the tanks to get oil through the hoses, up to the engine reservoirs.

Has anyone out there done this repair/replace? Any good advice?

Yamaha?? If so:
I have removed/replaced the oil tank, oil pump and little filter more than once and never had any issues. The wiring does not have to be cut as it plugs into the pump.

Agreed, I just got done pulling that tank out to replace the filter on the bottom. Mine too is rusted beyong recognition. I cleaned it up as best I could, but will replace probably next year. Please post some pictures when you are finished as the OEM is north of $100 I believe :shock:

Thanx for the advice and recommendations. The plastic trays I'm going to use came from Overton and cost about $11 each. I'll be starting on this project as soon as it warms up a bit and will take some photos to post after I finish.

And my tank holder is also badly corroded :shock:

If any one has links or pics of what the did or replaced them with

This would be great

I also thought of bring it down somewhere to have something made up
But I was hoping for some other options

Appreciate the suggestion to grace yammie with the rusted parts, but they're already in the landfilll Attached are some pics of the project and the mountings I used. The trays are battery trays and fit perfectly. The pics may be in reverse order

What kind of gas line are you using?
It looks silver in the pic
I just changed over to one of the stainless F/W separators
And I was thinking about if there was an upgrade to the factory fuel lines :roll:

This looks like a great solution. My boat is 2 hours away. Does anyone know what size tray is needed to fit the oil tank (group 24 or 27)?

Greetings:

It's a tray for 27 series batteries. I wasn't able to find trays with drainage holes, but it was easy to simply bore the holes with a drill.
