Just today I attempted to change the old floor hatch and noticed that the wood was rotted. When I removed the screws I could tell it wasn’t going to be a pretty sight. So after I started to look inside and noticed that the deck is starting to pop up from the stringers and where the washout is under the motor there’s more rot. Needless to say she's an old boat with well over 10,000 hours on her. She's been great to me and made me some good money over the years, I fished her commercially for a few years. I purchased the boat from my step brother who was nutty enough to run square grouper in her, there for the price was right when it was his time to pay the piper. However this could have been avoided and now I see where I went wrong.
Years ago I installed a rocket launcher seat that the live well slid under. There’s a hose that runs from the transom to it but the water flows out on to the deck. This hatch has always leaked and once or twice a day I would have to drain the bilge. Had I taken better care, did more maintenance this would have never happened. Lessons learned in life…….
