There is a new underwater LED model from Abyss Lite for those who are interested. They look promising so far. Each unit has 15 high powered flood (90 degree) LEDs and comes in either SS or bronze. Not sure which metal is better suited for the aluminum Armstrong bracket, which is where I'd want to mount them. They put out 1610 lumens @ 3 amps each. I am thinking of getting two for my boat. They will be at the Miami boat show at their booth. I'd love to know what they look like in person if someone checks them out. Thanks.

Model S 1515: Powerful 15 LED flood angle will illuminate up to * 100 feet.
15 LED – 45 watt, 90 degree beam angle.
Draw 3 Amp at 12 volts, 1610 Lumens at 8400 Kelvin.
Diameter 5 3/4 (14.6 MM) thickness 11/16 (27 MM)
The S 1515 is supplied with external power regulator

I would also be interested in any members impression of these lights if you see them at the boat show. Pricing would be good too. :)

(I'm 'shopping' for next year)

They are $547 each.

I am going to order one blue and one white to see which one looks better in our murky New York waters, and then send one back for an exchange. I’ll just hook them up to the battery and dangle them overboard (carefully!). Abyss said its not a problem. They were extremely helpful in answering all my questions.

Here is some info I found out from Abyss.

- The lenses are tempered glass. If they ever crack (doubtful), you will not take on water. The internals are completely potted in epoxy.

- Blue usually penetrates clearer water better than white. But in murky water, its a toss up.

- The S1515 puts out double the light as their previous high end model, the S1206.

- They recommend bronze over SS for a wet slipped boat, and they do not recommend mounting them to the aluminum bracket. Dissimilar metal problems I guess. I will probably just put them in the transom.

It's not bad, but the only thing that has me thinking right now is that I can get Ocean LED 1010's for $699, not much more. The Ocean LEDs are brighter than the Abyss lights. They have nearly double the lumen ratings. I'm trying to get LUX values from both companies to confirm though.

Hey thats a no Brainer then if the other and brighter and just few bucks more it might be worth it!!!Can you maybe get that guy down from in the $600 mark and or maybe someone else will buy 2 as well from classic parker and work out a deal with them tell them your buying 4 and want better price!!! Like i said i have mine from ScarbChris and i will see how they look in the water!! I lit them up already with 12 battery booster and i can say there bright, but who knows in the water,i am sure there good!!!Hey if you want to see what it looks like i am in Brooklyn as well and can stop by to show you!!

I was doing a little more research on the Abyss lights. They look great and all, but I don't think I'm too crazy about the way they install. You have to drill a 1/4" hole straight through the transom for the wire. Then you drill a 1/2" hole 1/8" deep through the original hole. When the unit is screwed in place, there is a nub that squeezes into the 1/2" hole, and the wire goes right through into the transom.

Also, I guess they designed it this way since the fixture is cooled by water from behind, so it cannot be completed caulked to the transom. Just around the wire in the center and around the mounting legs.

What do you guys think?

These are the Ocean LEDs. They are thru-hull mounted with a 1" hole. I think these are easier to install and much safer. The cheaper $699.00 model has a 4.5" bezel, so thats about a 3.5" diameter of caulk surrounding the center hole. No way water is leaking through 3.5" of caulk. The next model up (almost $1K) has a 5.2" bezel.

Also, it says maximum transom thickness is 3". Are Parker transoms thicker than that? Anyone know?

I have installed Abyss lights on my boat. They are not the new version but original ones. I installed two S-800's and one S-1206 (white). This is not on the Parker but a CC Baja. I am happy with the outcome and i can image that then newer ones are even better than mine. Some pictures of the install and in the water.
