First let me start by saying hello and I love this forum new member but a wealth of info on here. Ok so I have been on the hunt for a 2520dv in my price range for a long time. Something close to me and not in to bad of shape. Well I came across this the other day on Craig's list https://gulfport.craigslist.org/boa/5483790057.html

I have been over and looked at it a couple times and went threw it pretty well. Here is what I have found so far the wiring is kind of a mess but everything works the rub rail is all jacked up i.e. Needs a new one the floor is soft right around the rear hatch in front of the transom and the water pump does not work and it's chalky BAD. I'm no stranger to boats and rot I have done the quarter test all over the boat. Tapping a quarter on the stringers and transom and floor only place it sounds soft is right around the hatch. The motor is a 2013 250 Yamaha with less than 200 hrs and runs great. The bottom paint is hammered and there are quite a bit on barnacles on the bottom and lower unit so is it worth 20k or should I run. Any input or trouble spots I should look for any input would be great as I'm going to buy it tomorrow. Also what kind of Preformance numbers should I look for with that 250 ps the hull is a 1992

Is that a 4.2 F250 or a 3.3? Anyway, if it's a 4.2 then the motor alone is almost worth the price of the boat. That said, a 250 is way underpowered for a 2520 DV IMO. As long as you know what your getting into (lots of work, fuel tank, wiring etc..) with respect to an old boat, then I guess it's an ok deal.

I'm not sure if it's a 4.2 or not how do I tell also I'm not into a boat restoration already been down that road cleaning up wiring is not a big beal for me. Is there any trouble spots on this particular boat I should watch out for thanks

Looks like a 3.3? Just ask the guy? The boat will be underpowered and it sounds like you will need to be doing some deck repairs along with bottom work. Gel coat chaulky is just elbow grease and time. Only you know how much effort you are willing to put into the boat based on how perfect you want it to be. You can shine up underpowered though. That is your trouble spot.

Parkers hold their value pretty well. If this hull was in great shape it would be listed with the newer motor for more than 20k.

You need to decide how much work you are willing to do to buy at a lower price. Me, I prefer it that way,I love working on boats. But if you dont enjoy it then you have to pay the higher price for a newer boat that has been well cared for.

Nobody has x ray vision to see the condition under the deck. But being a 92 with a soft deck I would bet it should have some other repairs as well.

If you can get it for 15k-17k then you are only really paying a few grand for the boat. To me thats a decent price. BUT... if you are not willing to fix it up you should not buy a 1992 project boat thats for sure.

It would not even be a question of buying it but I just started a c-hawk restore stringers up because I could not find a Parker and I literally just finished all the glass work on it still a long way to go but I'm in deep

I've been redoing '91 2520. Deck had multiple soft spots. When I tore it out there was zero rot on stringers. Not really that big of deal to replace deck. Find your stringer centers, cut on centers and replace decking. I epoxied underside of deck before attaching. $20k with that motor sounds pretty reasonable. I've got a modified v with 225 yam. Not too fast but up on plane fast and cruise about 26mph. I've been tearing up and fixing boats a long time. Don't think I've ever seen one built as sound as a Parker.

When Using A-B Fir Marine plywood........ Epoxy coating is not enough. Fir plywood "checks".

What is "Checking"?

These are samples of what Checking is. It looks like the paint is coming off the panel...... and it is , but it's because the wood has checked.

The panel was epoxied w/ 2 to 1 epoxy, Primed and painted with Higher end automotive paint. PPG Concept. It was put in the weather and left with no attention.

The fix it stop the checking is a layer of glass cloth....It doesn't need to be heavy for the bottom of the decking. 4oz or 6oz cloth will prevent it.

It's just the nature of Fir plywood
