I have a oil leak and it is leaking from the weep hole above the lower unit top
screw and and out the front and attached the pics. It is not leaking from oil
filter, oil fill tube, dipstick, out the prop, lower unit fill and top screws. Any thoughts?

Is it gear oil or motor oil?

Was the motor "pickled" or winerized?
If so it's probably just fogging oil.

It is motor oil but the oil level is full and exactly too high, and motor was not fogged.
Ran out of time and didnt have time to change it and filter. Attached pic shows leaking around drive shaft by power head but may be too difficult to see in this pic
A side question, if the oil level is too full, would it leak out? I see no leakage under the cowling

There are numerous threads on THT about a bad gasket between the powerhead and oil pan.

http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-for ... -leak.html

There are also several on the engine "making oil" meaning the oil was changed and filled to the proper level then after a couple of hours of use "makes" extra oil.

The suggested fix was to run ring free and run the hell out of the engine. The thought being the rings were stuck and the oil was getting raw gas in it that 's what was "making" oil.

The gasket fix is a tear down and new gasket. A bad gasket can cause catastrophic engine failure. I wouldn't run it until I had a good Yamaha mechanic look at it.

It this a 2 or 4 stroke? Your sig says HPDI so I asssume 2.

Could be just oil comming out of the exhaust.

OK, just an FYI to my knowledge, a four stroke Yammi can not be an HPDI.

You may want to change your sig to avoid confusion.

If it is a 2002 four stroke and that is engine oil, then it could be that the oil pump seal is worn or the seal has worn a groove into the crank shaft. The latter is a known issue for which Yamaha has implemented a cost effective repair. A stainless steel band (Speedi Sleeve) is pressed onto the crank shaft and covers up the groove. A new oil pump seal then rides on the Speedi Sleeve.

I contacted Andy at SIM
As stated earlier(thanks Brian, Jethro, Bryan) a sleeve repair kit is needed and other parts (oil pump, gaskets and seals) are needed and estimated parts costs less than $500 plus labor.
B.O.A.T. break out another thousand :(

You might want to have it properly diagnosed before buying all those parts and doing the job.

It very well could be just the ring free fix as the "extra" oil may cause some seals to leak from being over full.

Taking off the powerhead is a pretty easy job if you have basic mechanical skills.

Drop the lower unit
set up a hoist stand, I made one out of 2 10 foot step ladder and a 6x6. It looked like a swing set. I used a comealong and chain to the engine block. Or rent a engine hoist from Home depot or a rental place
Unbolt the powerhead, should be 13 bolts
Disconnect wiring harness, batt cables, fuel line
Jack powerhead up and off w/comealong
install new crank sleve and seal , you'll need a seal puller, it looks like a screwdriver with a hooked end to slide into the seal and pull it out.
Reverse everything to replace it and your done

I'd say about 7 hours for the whole job if you have any skills or know someone who can help you do it.

Any Clymers or Yamaha repair manual will have the directions and photos for this job.

Something to do for the winter I guess

Good luck

Yes I agree and thanks again
I can drain the oil and check for gas and locate a local mechanic for troubleshooting assistance
