No, no, no, y'all. Not Evinrude :D

Sent an e-mail to an out of state Parker dealer concerning a boat they advertised. Their e-mail site required a street address, and phone #. Tried to send without and it wouldn't go. I used the generic 123 Easy St and 704-555-1212 as phone and asked my questions. At the end I typed "Sorry I don't give out phone and address", my name, zip and city was included and correct.

Got back "Sorry, I can't help you"

I can drive down tomorrow and pick up boat if we struck a deal. You know, sometimes I gotta grin when I hear of financial trouble in some industries.

Yep, that's what dealer protected territories do. You want a Parker, you have to buy from them, like it or not.

This is one of the reasons I bought a 3 year old boat with 100 hours. I saved $30K doing so too. :D

The way things are going soon the dealers will be driving to you, thats when you drop kick them in the pelvic region for a deal. Boats are not moving very good right now so they better adjust their attitude a bit. The buyer is in the driver seat right now. Good Luck

I'm sure you meant KICK? 8) Lick, puts a whole new spin on the thought. but then again, if it gets you a good price.....

It is your money. Spend it where you choose. I had an issue with a local Parker dealer and happily found an out of state dealer much more knowledgeable helpful and courteous. This is not a socialist country.

No excuse for any kind of rudeness. I think they are trying to follow the territory rules put out by Parker. GW is even more strict about it. But, where there is a will, there is a way.

Glad you cleared that up. There for a moment, I thought you might be one who would suggest "consumating" the boat sale contract in a public mensroom at the airport.

joke

"I have a beamy boat ... errr, but I do not have a wide stance ..."

I don't understand how a reply of "Sorry, I can't help you." is rude. Afterall, you are the one who declined to provide requested information. I don't blame you if you choose not to provide address and phone number via the internet but, you can't blame a business for refusing to do conduct business with you for it. Perhaps you are being a bit over sensitive here.

Anyone who has read as many as five of my posts should understand that I'm about as sensitive as a Catapillar back-hoe in a china shop.

He needs my street address to tell me if he still has boat in stock, or how it's equipted? come on, now.

Zip was all he needed to determine that you were out of his territory. I wouldn't say he was "rude" only abiding by the Parker sales territory rules.

Lots of folks complain about those rules, but the marine industry is not the automotive industry. I wish it was, but it is not, so we have to figure out how to work a good deal within it. You can always buy used.

BTW, the service I get through Tri-State Marine (Deale, MD) where I bought my boat new, is more valuable to me than a few thousand $$ I might have saved by working the angles in another sales territory.

Over the many years I've been watching, I've seen more posts on the internet from folks being upset over service than being upset over the initial purchase. In the real estate market, the motto is "location, location, location." In the marine market, I posit the motto should be "service, service, service."

I guess I am fortunate that like Capt. Ron, I do all my own maintenance, and can fix just about anything. In all my years of boating I have never returned to the dealer for anything. So to me, service really means nothing. It is all about price for me.

Also, I guess I've been lucky with major components not breaking down other than needing a little TLC now and then. Of course, what is there to go wrong with a Parker hull? Yamaha relaibility up there too. No worries from me. Take care of your stuff, and will take care of you.

I bought my new 21SE a few weeks ago from Don's Marine in Tiverton, RI. These guys were great....honest, no bs and couldn't be more helpful.
