I took the boat out to catalina last week. i topped off the fuel tank with 87 octane, which might be my problem. Im pretty sure i had the boat loaded over capacity, its rated for 11 people or 1430 lbs. i had six guys plus ice chests, and freedive gear, plus camping supplies. Going out we did 12 kt all the way out, the motor was running at 3800 rpm, burning 18.9 GPH. the engine seemed sluggish without power. Im thinkin maybe it is starved for fuel, or ignition problems. Out at the island i changed the spark plugs, fuel filters/water separator, and added fuel injector cleaner. on the way back we did 14kts given we we a lot lighter. what do you think the problem is, maybe clogged injectors, Fuel Pumps, Any Help Would be Greatly appreciated! motor has 978 hrs on it.

If this engine is a 2 stroke, check the low presssure fuel pumps. Diaphrams get eaten up by ethanol fuel.
Separate them from engine block, leave fuel lines connected. Squeeze fuel bulb like crazy. If fuel comes out of the back, they are bad.
