Hey Guys-
I need to refurbish the trailer for my 1993 1800. The current configuration, which I assume came with the boat, has four bunks. The two central bunks are longer than the two outer bunks, but all four start at the stern of the boat and are supported by a riser from the aft cross-member. The two central bunks are also supported by risers on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th crossmembers. The outer two bunks only extend to the 2nd crossmember. The trailer is a pacific galvanized single-axle with 3500lb capacity.

I ordered all new risers (12 in total) and new crossmembers to replace the 2nd, 3rd and 4th (the aft crossmember seems to not be exposed to as much saltwater dripping as the others, so it is in OK shape). I am planning on breaking the trailer down and reassembling myself. After picking up the parts from Pacific Trailer and getting home, I realized that I was only given two risers for the aft crossmember (10 total instead of 12). When I called to ask about it, I was told that the bunk layout he has doesn't have the central bunks extending all the way back to the aft crossmember, probably to avoid interfering with a bait tank pickup or transducer.

On to my question, is he just blowing smoke to avoid fixing his mistake, or is this a legitimate bunk configuration? Can anyone with an older 1800 comment on their bunk layout? Would the bunk layout have changed when the changes were incorporated into the 1801? Would it be OK to not support the transom with 4 bunks? My initial thought is that the trailer has worked for the last 18 years, why change the configuration, but I also wouldn't mind avoiding the headache of forcing them to fabricate these risers if they are completely unnecessary.

Any insight or help is appreciated.
