is 225 hp Yamaha 4 stroke 2012 enough power for a 23 se two adults three kids under 14 years old, family boat use , close to shore occasional good weather trips to Monheegan Island 20 miles from Friendship Maine .
any advice from forum members appreciated .

Boat isn’t gonna be a speed demon but IMO if it’s propped correctly, you should get on plane ok, top speed around 40. I’d guess 2.5 mpg around 4600 RPMs cruise which would be around around 30. I’m speculating using nautical miles. I would say performance would be adequate for your described usage.

Note: Everything written above is a guess based on me comparing my experiences running an F225 on a 2520 which is both longer & heavier.

I think a 225 would kick butt. Hard top or soft top? Considering a lot of them come with 4 cyl 200s now, you should be great. A 4.2l 250 is about a 10k upgrade according to Parkers website, and also max HP. That is a 14degree deadrise boat that will perform better with less HP than a DV, at the expense possibly of ride quality.

Well said, and a 150 will push a 21se to 40+mph w/ a fairly heavy load. I want to go down in prop size slightly but 225hp should be plenty for a boat 2' longer than mine.
