I was very interested in buying a an older used 21' parker pilothouse. Turns out the boat was no longer available by the time I called but the broker strongly reccomended I consider another boat in that size class because he said the Parker gave a very hard and uncomfortable ride in a moderate chop. I remember a friend of mine years ago had a 25' pilothouse and it was a hard ride, but I always assumed that was because he didn't have trim tabs. I'm looking for help from owners of the 21, I really like the layout but have to consider if it's going to be too rough on my family. It's a big decision and I could really use some help from people who run this boat. Thanks

That was my first thought, but he didn't come at me with any other options. He only said he sold one to a friend of his last year and the guy didn't make it through one season on Long Island Sound because it was such a jarring ride. I'm looking for a boat that will be 80% fishing 20% family/tubing/cruising. I love the huge cockpit and the cabin portion will provide some comfort/privacy for the family. I think a sea trial on a snotty day is the only way to find out how she handles in less than perfect conditions.

One thing to remember is that a pilot house is always going to ride rougher then a CC because in a pilot house you are sitting a lot farther forward. On the other hand there are numerous days that you would not go out in a CC because of the weather where in a pilot house you go and are warm and dry. I have a 2828xl and it does ride rougher then my my CC, however I would never go back. Three things help me smooth out the ride, having a deep V hull, over sized trim tabs and going a little slower.

Good luck on your search for a boat.

ALL monohull boats will slam...I have an 08 2120sc,and it will hammer a bit goin uphill in a steep windswell...just gotta slow down, and roll w/the punches ...so to speak. It's the best boat I've ever had goin downhill in a following sea...Nice and stable.Even goin uphill,ya just trim it a little different, slow down a bit,and its all good.
This is my 5th boat, and my best.
There is a big difference between a CC,and a PH for sure!!
Go test ride a couple, you'll see.
MJ.
