The small plywood shelf in the bilge where the bilge pump is fastened to starting ozing a small amount of brown liquid from both sides . Dremmeled it out and found water. The front of the plywood had voids in the fiberglass which allowed the water to enter. Drilled a few large holes with a hole saw and used a hair dryer to dry everthing out. Filled the holes with resin and matting followed with a layer of cloth over the entire shelf.

The local Parker dealer, White Water Marine, was kind enough to furnish gel coat. The problem I have is that the gel coating is shinny and the rest of the bilge is a flat beige. I was told Parker only has interior and exterior gel coat and WW provided both but both are shinny. Where do I get the flat or am I doing something wrong??

Thanks

The interior gelcote I purchased from Parker is flat. However, I had to add wax so the glossy exterior gelcote would completely cure. My test patches initially set up like laminating resin with the surface remaining tacky.

It would be covered under the warranty. But frankly I could see them merely applying some surface putty and calling it fixed. I'd rather do it right.

The hair dryer worked well as there were voids on all sides of the shelf which I dremmeled out. I could feel the hot air at these voids so I know the wood was dryed out. Repair is now complete although the interior gel coat still has some shine to it. I guess it will eventually fade.
