Has anyone used this reel with wire line for trolling? If so how do you like it and what would be a good rod in the 8 ft range to slap it on?

Haven't tried that one, as I prefer the Penn narrow-width reel for wire, but I forget the model# offhand ...

6/0 is a little big for snapping wire, 4/0 Senator with a metal spool would be a little better because of size and weight.

As for a rod, best thing is to buy a rod built for wire with carbide guides and slow action to the blank.

Your local tackle shop should be able to help you out.

I wound up going with a Diawa sealine 400hw on a 8 ft tony maja bunker spoon series rod. Tested it out today worked well, good action. Too bad the baas weren't eating today. Despite all the bunker in the water.
