New to the site. Looking at either buying a used 98 21 dv, or a new 21 ft se. Im actually finding pretty good deals on some newer Parkers. The used 21 dv would prolly require new power within a couple years, no big deal. Has anyone ever put a 250 or bigger? I know its only rated for 225. but a 250 0r bigger 2-stroke would wiegh less than a lot of 225 4-strokes. No im not a speed freak but the way the bay that I fish is layed out, speed is definately a good thing. Any comments would be great.

Also would you consider a 98 21 dv with a 225HO johnson a pretty good deal for 16,000? I think its fair the boats in good shape for being 10 years old. Also I got quoted a new 21 se for right at 27500 with a 150 2stroke. I think thats pretty good too. Either way I hope to have something within the next month. then I have to sell my old boat.

Take if from the owner of a previously overpowered boat...don't do it. Your resale will go in the crapper.

A 225 2-stroke should be plenty of power for a 21DV. My last boat was a 204 Grady (1995 lbs dry) powered by a carbed 150 Merc and it would top out around 42 mph w/ T-Top and canvas. Of course that boat was lighter than a 21DV Parker...but still, a 225 2-stroke should put you up near 50 mph I would imagine...and that's fast. :D

I paid about the same for my '99 which was the same setup. She would fly but was thirsty as hell. Just put a 200 HPDI on it and I think it is the perfect balance. 250 would be overkill, but that' just my opinion as where I fish you are lucky to run 20 knots.

I'd also go dv over se.

Good luck.

I just dont know what im gonna do. The dealer is getting real anxious to dump the SE and its brand new. Im gonna have to really sit down and do some thinking. If you ever look at a map take a look at east galveston bay Texas. Thats where I fish. The icw runs parrallel to it so you can pretty much run in protected water to wherever your going.

will you be protected from barge, yacht, ship and ferry wake also, how about wind blown chop. ride in both before you decide.

Well theres no ferry and no ships, just barges but they dont throw up wake. I fish out of a kenner bay boat now and I dont have problems. I think im gonna wait and see what Ike does then make a move.
