I just recently got a Parker 25 and want to add a swim ladder to the transom. Can anyone provide info on doing this project. It has an outboard and trim tabs.

Thanks, Paul

Paul,

I have a 23SE with a notch transom and trim tabs and I recently installed a Dive-N-Dog swim platform. Other than being nervous drilling holes in the transom it was very easy. The platform connects to the transom at five points – two at the base, two above the base where the bars come up to meet the transom and the fifth at a support beam underneath the base.

The first four holes I listed are thru holes. Two of the holes come through inside the jump seat and the other two just beneath the rub rail, so they are not easily seen from inside the boat. For these holes I used scrap pieces of aluminum to make backing plates. I filled the holes with 4200 and smeared the backing plates with 4200.

For the fifth hole I used a screw with a length that is roughly half the thickness of the transom and used 4200 here as well. All hardware is stainless steel of course.

A few things to be aware of when figuring out where to mount the ladder are that the motor does not hit the platform and that the ladder does not hit the D-ring on the transom when folding it up and down. You also want to make sure the ladder does not drag in the water, but your trim tabs will force you to mount it high enough that this won’t be an issue.

I put a couple of pics of the ladder below, taken from behind the boat. I can take some pics of the bolts and backing plates and the support beam underneath if you’d like, but I may not be able to post them until early next week.

Let me know if you have questions.

Gary

Gary, thanks for the feedback. I think I might take some measurements and go for a similiar ladder. I think there should be a little more space on the 25.

This Armstrong platform was installed in 2002 with a 4 step ladder. I have done nothing to it and it is as strong as it was when it was installed. Good for changing a prop or removing fouled line even in a chop. 3 thru bolts above the waterline away from trim tabs.
If you are older and out of shape (like me) or will be taking people like me, you might consider a 4 step ladder.
