I was wondering about changing Props on my 2520xl it came standard with the black coated stainless prop but would like some feedback if there's another type stainless prop that will help me get on plane faster plus make the boat faster,or give me better cruising speeds at lower RPM. appreciate any inputs from parker owners on that subject. THANKS

I don't know if it's unique to the 2520xl or not but it sure seems like your issues ( get on plane faster and better speed at lower RPM ) are pretty common. I had the same issues with my 2520 and after testing quite a few props, settled on a Rev 4 /17p.

You may want to check out the prop sticky for more info.

My only issue with my new prop is that when I'm loaded down with fuel and passengers, I can only get 5600 rpm at WOT. I guess that's ok although I've read here that you should be able to run at the spec. rpm which, on my 250F is 6000.

Anyway, I'm sure some others will chime in.

You may even want to explore using a Permatrim like Grouper Jim did. He loves his.

If someone could come up with the perfect prop calculator that would take into account all of the variables we put put boats through, and select the perfect prop... that person would be a wealthy man.

Propping a boat just right isn't a science... it's a black art.

Well said Kevin, and I don't think it ends there.

I've always maintained that finding the correct tabs for your rigging, load, and local conditions is the same Black Art.

The Megabyte and Perseverance are very close to being model mirror images, probably even rolling off the line within several months of each other. However, how we load them, what we use them for, and where we run them are so completely different that your ideal prop/tab combo would probably not be mine.

In any case, it's nice to have a resource like the ClassicParker Knowledgebase where we can all collectively share and examine the performance of our chosen Models across the many permutations and combinations of power/prop/tab.

I tried a lot of different props on my last boat, a Maycraft 2550XL. I found that the Merc Enertia gave me the ability to hold plane at much lower speeds than the Rev. It also was much better at fuel economy in rough water. However for me the Rev 4 was the best around the docks, gave the best flat water economy and "bit the water" best at speed.

I currently run a Powertech 15.25x15 4 blade OSX with a Honda on a Judge 27 and find that I have the least about of prop slip, hold plane at a low speed without losing bite, and holds the water well when trimmed down. I just cannot trim up as high as my Merc props

John is absolutely correct. Two almost identical boats, but loaded differently and run in different bodies of water.
If picking a prop and a set of tabs were all we needed to do... life would be much simpler. :D

FWIW... I run a set of 24x9 Bennett tabs on my boat with a 17p Merc Mirage prop, and trust me... I've tried a lot of props over the past few years.

For my boat, the way she is loaded, and the conditions she runs in... I'm (reasonably) happy with how I'm setup.
Are we ever totally satisfied? 8)

I posted a new question in the prop sticky and would love anyone’s input on this prop as I have not installed it and curious to know if I made a good choice. My boat is a SL and I do not seem to have the same issues with planning as the XL group. I am just looking for slightly better economy and I like the polished prop. It is a Yamaha 15 1/2 X 17P SS II. I currently have a Black 15 X 17P stainless.

My current performance is similar to B-Faithfuls recent post getting 9-10 mpg at 4400 RPM's and going about 27mph. fully loaded with fuel and gear. Full throttle I turn 5900- 6000 rpms and 40mph.

What should I expect?

Maxout- With the same setup I have the mercury mirage 17p 3 blade. Great prop. Average about 2.4mpg...max rpm is 5800.

Was the diameter on the Mirage 15 1/2"?

Correct...15.5....I think it's actually the mirage plus, it's got great bite when cornering, difficult to cavitate. Got it new on ebay for $300, turned out the seller lived near me which worked out great.

I tried all 4 props the black 17x17,SWSII,REV 4 17,and the Enertia 17.The best prop for all around conditions was the Enertia.the Rev 4 was a good prop but had way to much bite in a heavy following sea it was a dog.I run mine pretty loaded with fuel ice and bottom fishing and trolling gear.

Thanks for all the input classic parker owners I think I might try a couple different props. thanks
