I want to drain my fuel tank and start with fresh fuel this season. I'll use the gas in my equipment and truck. I have drained fuel before with the fuel feed disconnected from the engine and used the primer bulb to start the siphon. Its gravity and slow, I know, but here's my question:

On Parkers, if I drain it this way, will it drain all the fuel out? Is the feed tube at the bottom dead center? That would be nice to know, if anyone knows. :D

That's how I've been draining my fuel from my 23SE. I have 70-75 gallons in there now that I want to burn in my truck but I'm dreading how slow the process is. Great timing with this question.
 
I belive the fuel pickup is toward the back of the tank on most models. The tube probably does not go all the way to the bottom to avoid picking up debris. If you raise the bow a little you should get most of it.


IF you want it to go a little faster, try disconnecting after the filter and run a line out the garbord plug (drain plug hole) in the back of the boat. It avoids as much up hill run as possible. I drained my old boat this way, 4 - 58 gallon tanks. :shock:
 
A siphon hose out the garboard thru-hull is surely the fastest, less removing the fuel sender to get full access to the tank. But, since you're in a cleaning mode, you could pull the fuel pickup fitting off the tank boss (by using 2 box wrenches 180-degrees apart). This would give access and allow you to clean and inspect the fuel pickup. Some have screens, but typically the end is simply a bent piece of SS, lying about 1" above the bottom of the tank [positioned ~12" or less from the rear of the tank, typically on center as stated].

Reseal with Permatex gasket compound. FWIW, I use those handy hoses with the 'built in' bulb to start the siphon ... no fuel in the mouth :shock: !

But you know, if you have run any ethanol fuel ... you're tanks already being scrubbed. If you're worry about the fuel condition, throw in a shock or recovery dose of PRI-G and top with fresh hi-test fuel.
 
Interesting option Dale. I hadn't ever heard of PRI G until just now when I Googled it. I am not a big fan of additives but I may just give this a try. I started using a diesel additive in my truck last fall because the diesel we get here sucks and I can really, really, see a difference. No smoke more power and smoother performance.

Is what I want to do.

I had gotten away from Ethonal by filling the boat up out in the country but IIRC there's about 70 gallons left.
