OK. So in spite of the very well taken reservations about the S1000, I wound up installing one. After looking at the new X5 sport pilot, the TR1 etc., I just couldn't justify the cost. Again, my primary objective is to get some relief from the wheel on those 60 mile runs out and back.

Trolling is secondary, but I look forward to trying the unit in this application. I understand that the unit operates based on SOG and that tides and currents could cause the unit to think it is standing still and therefore not function. I'll see how problematic that is as I go along.

Anyway, my question is this (and I think this applies to all AP's):

If you troll a figure 8 for example, the AP is supposed to repeat the exact pattern. If the wind or current is blowing, won't the pattern "shift" in the direction of the current or does the AP know to repeat the track made on the first pass?

I couldn't find anything in the manual that addresses that.

I have the S-1000 in the Aluminum boat I am selling to get a parker. It is 3 years old I cant troll below 2mph. To answer your question I think it just follows a size pattern so you will move when you drift. You can set a trail to follow and it will follow those points till the end of the trail.

Like Reelhookedup said. It will follow the same pattern but does not matter where you drift to. You can program a lengthy trip in your Raymarine Chartplotter with many waypoints and it will follow them to the T. As you approach a waypoint the beeper sounds and you acknowledge the arrival of that point and it proceeds to the next. This is nice so the boat does not make an abrupt turn without warning. I have had the high dollar AP and this one is the least expensive and as good as or better than many others I have owned. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy it.
