I have a 2320 2005 with full transom. Has a 200 yamaha hpdi. I do alot of offshore fishing and with all the gear-ice- and with 4 guys, im under powered. Im looking to get a 4 stroke. The yamaha 250 looks good but now they have the new 250 high power yamaha. My 200 now is 450 lb. if i go with a 250 -it 605 lb. The new 250 high power is 560 lb. I heard about guys talking that water is comming in on there floor deck-due to the weight. Any info on what motor to get ???

I have a F225 and a 8HP kicker on my 2007 and don't have any problems with water coming in the scuppers. I fish offshore a lot too. I had full tank of fuel (150 gallons), full livewell and 5 gallons of fresh water, 125qt cooler plus 4 grown men the other day and when we all went to a back corner of the boat water would come into the small square recesses in the floor where the scuppers were but never made it onto the floor. My 225 is about 580lbs and the kicker is around 125lbs so I have about 705lbs on the back and its not a problem. I think the new F250 is 560lbs and the older ones around a little over 600lbs. You should be fine with either is my opinion.

I had a kicker on the back n i have a 25 gall livewell mounted on the swim platform and when 2 guys are on one side in rear ,i would get my feet wet. It just may be that year parker 2005- OR- I think the 25 gall. well may be the problem. whats the weight per gall ? 6 lb ? 25x6=150lb + 125 [kicker] =275 lb..
Are you happy with the 225 ? Would you repower with 225 or 250 ? We are close. I live in dagsboro,De. IRinlet.

water= 8# per gal. We figure avation fuel 8# also, I have a 2011 2320 sl with a 225 yahm pushes me just fine. I would recomend the 250hp same engine 225-250-300 wt wise, you will be satsified with 250hp don't know price between the two. I think DaleH just repowered with 250 suzuki thats a good option also

I would go with the 250, there is no weight savings by going with the 225 and you can never have to much power. I am happy with the 225, running back from the dog the other day it was flat calm with 3 of us on the boat and was running 27mph at 4200rpm getting about 2.1mpg. I would like to see someone repower with the new 300 and see how it worked. I think they moved the gas tank forward around 2005 and maybe that is the difference. My livewell is mounted in the middle of the deck and not on the bracket so that could also influence it.

I get 1mpg with my 200[offshore] n when im in the bay with 4 people 1.7 plus OIL n lots of it. I burn 2 gall. of oil when going to the hot dog. It a great running motor but im unpowered n it sucks up gas n oil- Just like my GTO. lol
Im going to start looking at the 250 yamaha.
Do you have a 3 blade or 4 blade prop ?

It is a 4 blade, Rev 4 17p. I had a 17p Mirage plus before. Everyone told me I would loose top end and also mpg by going with the 4 blade but I didn't see any negatives. Mirage top end was 5900rpm around 39mph. Rev 4 top end is 5700rpm and hit 41mph once. Worst thing about the 3 blade props was the boat wasn't on plane until about 4100-4300. Now I can get it on plane at 3800 around 18mph with the tabs down. I also have a permatrim. Lower speed planing is really nice when it gets nasty out.

Let me know the prices you get for the 250. I might repower mine but am thinking I am just going to go bigger to a 2820 or 2520.

Those 4 blades are great for offshore fishing. Yes, your on plane at a lower rpm. I only lost 2 mph. My top speed is 36 knots. Thank you for all the info. guys. Now the wife wants me to get a custom bimini top for the back and i only saw one parker up in lewes that has one.
Thats going to be a pain to take off everytime i going tuna fishing !

Someone has been doing some reading. Glad that config worked out for you. Yeah, the f225 really likes the rev4 17. The f250 can sling the bigger diameter 17 pitch Mirage or SWS a little easier and get the increased mpg.

FWIW a few weeks ago i got caught in a huge storm 40 miles offshore at 0230am and found a great RPM and speed that was yielding a respectable 2.2 mpg chugging along through 4-5 close white capping chop. 2700rpm (displacement speed) riding level at 11-12 mph. Relatively comfortable ride with zero pounding.

Jim - I just read your spec. Wow -you did a great job. Thats good info.... I will be getting a 250 soon.

I am not advising against the heavier f250 vs a 2 stroke, but remember 2005 and early 2320s are heavier in the rear due to the gas tank being further aft. Something to consider if making comparisons to my 2006 hull data.

FWIW you can mitigate the difference by adding weight fwd with gear storage and heavier ground tackle/anchor. YMMV

Can the 2320 handle a 300 hp 4 stroke ? I called and spoke to Rob n he said --NO--- but call the company that makes the swim platform •Armstrong. They said -NO-- Why does it say 300 hp on my plate. Armstrong said it can handle the weight but not the power !!

The f300 weighs less than the f250. If the f300 will bolt up to my original Armstrong bracket then when my f250 departs this world it is getting a lighter weight 300. There is no way 50 hp is going to make that much difference.

FWIW my boat is now out of warranty so that is not a concern.

Thats what i saw --The 300 is less then 250. I just got back from looking at new yamaha.
Prices are for the salt waters 250 4 stroke with
Command Link® Digital Electronic Controls [wow - no more cables]

Its 50 lb lighter then the F-250---About 550 lb.
I read that this motor gives you more hp at 4000 rpm then the f-250- but at 5500 rpm its the same 250 hp. The salemen didnot know about that n we didnot couldnot find anything about that ? I will look again. -If you can get more power at a lower rpm, it will get the ass up n hold it there on plan.
$17,600 Motor only -no prop
Installed $20,000 n any prop i want..

Wow thats a lot of money!! Im gonna keep babying my ox66 as long as i can after seeing those numbers

Is that for the 4.2L V6 offshore ?

Yes 4.2L offshore. The F250 is old technology. Thats out. Im seeing one more yamaha call 250 high power - im finding it on line but not on yamaha site ??? Still looking. If you find anything, let me know.
