"Motor only" doesn't include the cost of the new fly-by-wire control system and maybe not even the new electronic gauges ... of which I was quoted $4-5K ... for a bunch of plug&play wiring - DOH! My Yam dealer wanted $32K for new Yam offshore 300hp installed w/ e-cables & e-controls and maybe $5K less for the 250hp, IIRC ...

Still a lot more than the $18K installed (prop, gauges, harnesses) that the Suzi ran me ...

When i got home the dealer called me and said the number was a total --$20,000 ? Installed ......
He did say the price came down. When i was looking on line, it saw as high as $25,000.
That number was when the motor first came out. I thought 20,000 was high n was going to go to more dealers. I will let you know, im going back there thursday.

The new technology fly-by-wire is very appealing.......I wish I had it. It is definitely better than the LOUD clunk of the 3.3 f250. But that being said, the 3.3 is a more fuel efficient motor than the new 4.2 per the test data that has come out online. I am in no hurry to see my 3.3 go away.

What does a F300 cost?

That is a lot of money, I would shop around and spec out a Suzuki
Back in Dec 2011 my local Yam delaer had the F300 about $4K more than the F250. And I got a quote of $32K for a F300 ready-to-go, installed, with prop and all new harnesses, control, and fly-by-wire gauges et al ... for 1-station. This was for a complete conversion to Yam components.

And remember, neither the Yamaha F250 (new or old block size) or F300 develops the rated horsepower WITHOUT using 89-octane fuel!

For only $18K installed, I got a new Suzuki DF 250 (that rates as a true 250hp OB motor running 87 octane fuel) installed on to 2 stations. And the shop did such a good job on their installation ... that I didn't have to tweak or adjust ANYTHING from their install, not even adding a ziptie where I thought there should be one.

Besides price, which Suzuki feaures did you like better than Yamaha?

Suzuki's Better Business Bureau rating tells it all. C
YAMAHA ------------------------------------------- A

RELIABILTY: Towboat/US runs 14 Suzuki OBs, most df250s, NOT ONE issue of injector, VST, or exhaust housing corrosion like comparable Yamahas have.

Most tuna pros up here too have switched from Merc Verados or Yumsters to Suzukis.

They're not as tightly ported as the Yams are, and hence are less prone to the extensive 'filtration' issues I see Yam owners fighting.

BS, it is all dealer related ... regardless of brand, find a dealer you can trust.

And I don't want no stinking expen$ive '220hp' motor that only runs at 250hp when using premium gas.

Will the black paint fade over time?
Haha, only a tad more than the infamous light blue Yam color will ;) ! While I will admit that I do hear that the Suzi paint on its cowling/hood isn't a strongpoint, I keep it covered with a sunbrella cover over it when not in use. As with anything painted - keep it clean and waxed and protected, and out of direct UV exposure (like when NOT being used) will give it a long life ;) .

You said it !!! Thats what its all about.
All marinas --only have 89-octane- unless you going to the street pumps ?

What dealer gave you those prices? They seem reasonable. Maybe I'll trade my 225 in for a 250 sooner then I thought.

I never heard of them, wonder what price Shorts would do. I only have about 375 hours but more power would always be nice!

I didnt go to shorts. YET. You have low houres. That motor will go 2000 H. more. Save your money....

I assume Suzuki is very proud of their parts.

Anyone like SIM where you buy parts?

There is......was Brownspoint marine. hurricane wiped them out.

I bought a lot of stuff from them over the years. Then i found out my local Suzzy dealer was cheaper. :)

The round figure number I got for a '12 DF-300A is $21K
