I am currently running a 96 Merc 150 offshore and the thing is getting pretty tired. Looking to repower this winter and am torn between going 2 stroke or 4. Guy at the Everglades/Parker booth at the boat show said he would never repower with a 2 stroke, the technology is out of date. My thoughts are that to spend the extra money on a 4 stroke (thinking of the Yami 200 4cyl or the Merc Verado 200) would be a waste in terms of the year of the hull and condition- lipstick on a pig, although my pig is awesome and I love her. My 2 stoke option would be the 200 Opti or maybe a 225. Thoughts on the engines or the logic- thanks

Well......You have to come to terms that you like the boat ....It's what you want....and that your making a investment.

DF-175 Suzzy would be my choice. WHY?

Whole bunch of reasons.

1st.....Once you go 4 stroke....You'll throw rocks at a 2 stroke. Buddy of mine [Marine Mechanic] Tells me he's put more computers on E-Tecs than any other outboard.

Merc Verido?...If I was in the market for buying a boat....I'd walk when I saw that. Yea....They sell'em down here.....Not much.

The gear ratio in a Suzzy is lower than any other outboard. It swings a Bigger prop. It gets a better bite. Think of it as Wider tires on a car to get better traction. They run a timing chain...Not a belt.

The track record for the 175 Suzzy's has been outstanding.

Oh.....and new now....You can get the motor in White or Black.

Ditto, get the Suzuki!

I don't know of one Suzuki 4-stroke that has had a filter clog, injector issue, VST or some other alleged performance add-on tweak, has lost a cylinder, has had extensive exhaust housing corrosion issues, rewuires 2-micron filters to prevent "issues", or needs 89 or better octane to produce the rated 250HP on an alleged (and labeled) 250HP motor. And I cannot say that about Yummiehas.

Tow Boat/US up here runs 14 Suzi OBs from 140HP to 250HP and not one has ever had an issue ... not one!

And to make it even better, go to Ken @ www.propgods.com and get yourself a 4-blade PowerTech prop for it!

X3 on the suzuki I had a 115 yamaha 4 stroke with all the fuel and injector problems stated above. Switched over to a new 115 suzuki great motor so far the gear ratios in it makes it feel torquey (not sure if I spelled that right). The reason I bought the suzuki were all what's listed above.
