So I have the opportunity to repower my 2000 1801 with a 4 stroke yamaha 115. (the current 115 2 stroke has a blown power head and would need to be rebuilt) I'm concerned that the 4 stroke weighs more than the 2-stroke that's on there now, and that my bow will be up out of the water too much. Do you guys have any experience with this? Repowering with the used 4 stroke would end up being about the same price as having the 2 stroke rebuilt (but then I'd have the 1 year warranty).

Anyway...any help/insight you can provide is appreciated.

You didn't give us the specs on the 4 stroke. What yr, # hrs, condition? Obviously you will notice a difference in the 2 engines in torque and power curve. I think the weight is fine as many 18' are powered with a 150. You didn't mention the cost to rebuild and the outlay for the 4 stroke. You may find a 150 if you shop around.

Chris -

My Parker 1801 has a factory installed Yamaha F115TXR (four stroke) which weighs 412lbs. The boat is fine with that motor and the scuppers stay clear of the waterline. The 1801 is not a speed demon with a F115.

A Yamaha F150TXR weighs 475 lbs. I wouldn't want much more weight on the transom than the F115 I have now.

From this chart http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/07 ... ls_web.pdf it appears the two stroke 115TLR weighed 358lbs.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info guys...
I'm not too worried about the torque or power curve as much as I'm worried baout the additional weight. I feel like my bow sits high as-is with the 2 stroke and 2 batteries back there. I realize I'll notice a difference in how quickly the boat gets on plane, but I'm not racing anyone, and I don't really use the boat for skiing or towables, so I don't think it will be a problem...

The current 2 stroke is a 1999 and the potential repower 4 stroke is a 2004. I don't know the hours on it, but I hope to find that out soon. The cost of rebuilding the 2 strk and repowering with the used 4 strk are just about the same, so that's not an issue for me.

Do you know of any issues with the mounting holes, or controls (i.e. can the 2 stoke mounting holes and controls be used for the 4?)

Thanks again guys!

My '06 1801 has the 115 Yamaha 4-stroke. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better matched motor for that platform. My family uses the boat for fishing as well as tubing and I have yet to have any issues regarding performance. At 29 mph I am getting 6.2 mpg, that's hard to beat!
