Splashed today in the PAX river vicinity of Solomons Island, MD. Wind was terrible, so I turned up river and poked around some of the coves and creeks I had never explored before. Finally ended up at the "Sea Breeze" restaurant and bar. Managed to dock her in the wind first time (guess this old Army guy is learning some Navy tricks). Great crab cakes...probably best I've ever had.

Boat ran well. Tickled 40 mph at 5,600 rpm with 80 gal of fuel and myself (no fishing gear or ice).

When I got back and washed her down and parked her in the trailer slot I'm assigned, I took a clipboard and began writing. OMG, what a list of deferred maintenance I've got to work off:

Boat:
Load WD-40, SaltAway, and Clorox spray bottles
Install new TACO rod holders (need hex wrench)
Install new tube lights in cabin (already purchased)
Load trolling weights
Clean windows and install Army stickers
Remove, clean, and polish vinyl curtains
Purchase new flares
Purchase and install tennis balls on antenna tips
Reinstall deck flood lights (loose) (look at using only one (LED) in center)
Install mic clip (need drill and small SS bolts+nuts
Lower fly-rod holders
Electrical:
Install heavy-duty + and - cable terminal posts
Clean all terminals and wires
Check battery fluid levels
Wire Garmin to Raymarine NMEA junction box
Install 2009 fishing sticker
Trace intermittent GPS signal
Lower depth/speed/temp sensor
Load second chair
Check rubber bottoms on first chair
Install new metal trim sensor ring on port motor (already purchased)
Anchor:
Remove old rode and cut off chain
Splice chain to new 300' spool of 1/2” line
Install new rode (use old rode for dock lines)
Organize medical kit (use new orange box)
Sospenders:
Check CO2 bottle
Check strobe
Move strobe to higher position
Swap out old dock lines for new ones (already purchased)
Oil analysis:
Order oil analysis kits from Herguth
Send in oil from Tri-State January sample
Clean and wax hull
Order and install port-hole window splash guards (bmail Kevin)
Obtain 16” x 13” SS plates for trim tab expansion

Trailer (put boat in transient slip and bring trailer home):
Winch :
Remove and service
Install new SS cable
Service pulley
Boggies:
Replace 8x plastic rocker bushings
Replace 8x large 'U' bolts (related to bushings)
Replace 16x small 'U' bolts (related to boggie bars)
Brakes:
Assemble parts to install second set of Kodiak disk brakes
Assemble parts to install new hydraulic lines (now tandem)
Order and install electric-over-hydraulic actuator
Order and install electric brake controller for cab of truck
Guide-Ons:
Remove old bases
Order and install new guide-ons
Tighten spare tire bolts/nuts
Cut off front roller hangers (too high) (spray with galvanizing paint)
Assemble parts to rewire trailer (go LED)
 
Wow, amazing how the little things add up. Sounds like you will be busy on land. Hopefully I will finish my list today. I am about 12 beers away from nirvana. You must have been anxious to get her wet to brave that wind. Sounds like she ran good.
 
If you ever get around to selling that boat I would be interested. And on another note, you have made me feel like sh!t for all the maintenance I never do.

I bet its a nice boat..
 
It's like a house. It never ends. I thought I had everything done before splashing, guess what I didn't and I have a list too. :eek:

Years ago I could carry a list like that around in my head. I could just lean back and close my eyes and picture each item and area from bow to stern and remember what needed to be done before splash. :lol:

Now when I lean back and close my eyes ..... I fall asleep. :oops: :oops:

Thank God for lists. 8)

I'm still a couple of weeks away from splash, that is, if we ever see the sun again up here. :cry:

Good luck with the rest of your season. Looks like you'll be prepared for anything.

Here is my list of maintenance...

Drop boat at dealer.. pick up when done :lol:

Glad to hear you are back on the water :!:

Ouch!!!!

Not everything on that list is required to launch/go fishing. That is why it is called "deferred maintenance" and why it is so long.

Trailer has not been touched (except for swapping out the drum brakes for disk brakes) since new in 2002. So it is time to replace some boggies and because the 'U' bolts are rusted, it is best to cut them off with a torch and install new ones.

Anchor rode is OEM (2002), and I swapped ends and respliced the rope to the chain. Rope portion of the rode is showing age and time to replace.

I know the list looks long, but some of it is nit-noi stuff that takes all of 30 seconds.

A list is the only way I can keep from forgetting what needs to be done.

I had to laugh out loud when I read that one! :lol:

I make lists too. My initial 'splash list' took me 3 full weekends to complete, but the boat is wet and now I turn to my 'other list' - loading all my safety and fishing gear back on the boat.

One item that I'd suggest everyone add to your 'lists'...

As you go through your safety gear, notice all of the battery powered devices we carry.
FireFly strobes, flashlights, radios, handheld GPS, more flashlights... All of those items contain batteries.

As you go through your gear, put fresh batteries in everything whether it needs it or not. Starting off the season with fresh batteries in all of your safety gear is good insurance.

And don't forget the rechargeable batteries in your handheld torch, hot-shot jumper battery, fender inflator, and anything else that needs a fresh charge. Starting out the season with fresh power is a good thing to check off that list. :wink:

Dave... you're going to like the extra security and stopping power of a dual-axle brake setup. 8)

Some of us prefer to do our own maintenance, that way we have more money for beer and gas :lol:

Really I personally am too far from the dealer and NO ONE touches my boat unless I'm dead. I hate to say it but I have little faith in most dealers and the untrained persons doing maintenance. A good mechanic that treats your boat as well as you is hard to find. Look at some of the recent posts were hatches were not sealed and screws not sealed and this was the "Factory". People assume the factory should know better. Just like people assume our president is looking out for the country's best interest. Wisdom tells us different and if you want something done right "Do It Yourself" :)

Yeah, I make lists, too. I'm thinking...when I take the shrinkwrap off my 2008 2100CC...should I wax the boat...or should I sell it and buy a new boat...

Yeah, but my boats are always for sale...I sold my 2520XL after a couple of years...

For the right price, I'd sell my 2008 2100CC in a New York minute...so I can buy another new boat.

Yeah...I am...nuts! :wink:
