My son has a 1800 with a Johnson/Suzuki ( understand Suzuki now owns Johnson) and on getting on plane and also while running after getting on plane, the motor skips few times and if you pull it down to idle it will run. Once you cut it off it cannot be started again for several minutes. Upon checking the gas pump up ball, it is completely flat, like it has been sucked flat. Will slowly return to normal after few minutes, then motor will fire fine and run normal again until you start to get on plane, then starts all over again...shuts down, pump up ball flat. Have now pulled out gas line, all way to tank and every thing appears to be fine...nothing in line and good shape. All started after replacing water/fuel separator and until doing this all was fine. Been out several trips before replacing the separator and ran perfect. Need help with this one guys. He is lost...think is going to get another water/fuel separator and try, thought maby the difference of thickness of filter has something to do with it. Motor is 2007 115 4-stroke, only about 50 hours on motor...like new. Please help.

Try running the boat w/ the fuel FILL cap open ... if she runs OK then you fuel VENT line is clogged/blocked and isn't allowing air into the tank to replace the fuel used.

Your primer bulb could be old too.

. .. ..I had this exact issue last year with my Yammi. . . ..I went through everything and it turned out to be the filter. I know you stated you just changed it. ...but there's a chance the new one is bad/clogged. . . ..and if it's the only thing you did before the issue started. . ...that's where I'd start. ....then follow that with what Dale has suggested.

Who makes the fuel filter removed? Did u replace with the same type.? Did you lube add and the gaskets to it? Did it tighten on threads easily and not cross thread? Does it have a bowl was the gasket replaced and lubed? How old is the bulb?

Brent, don't know the answer to these questions...but he is replacing the water/fuel separator filter and he is reading these posts you guys are sending in...he will hit on something and will let you know when we find problem...you know it must be related to one or more of the items that is causing the problem. Seems odd that it started after replacing this filter...we was down at Paradise Sholes not long ago and ran fine...2 trips. Up on Chesapeake Bay this past week flounder fishing and it started first day. May not have the correct filter and possibly not on right...like cross threated...but looks like would be leaking if that is case.

Uhhhh, running it w/ fuel fill open co$ts him nothing ... replacement filters are expen$ive if not the culprit ...
