Much simpler using 0-degree holders (straight up and down) to install into the washboards.

1) Check under the washboards for clearance and drill the large hole.

2) Install rod holder and drill for the bolts, adding a chamfer. Note the 2 bolts are to the inside of the boat, as that is where all the force from a fish will be placed ...

3) Seal the bottom of the bolt holes with duct tape and duct tape a spent/used plastic ziplock baggie or similar under the main hole. No mess to worry about! Plus you were 'green' and re-cycled something ...

4) Wet-out with thin penetrating epoxy and acid brushes, filling the holes with epoxy and then liberally coating and re-coating the ID of the large hole repeatedly. Just before the remainder of the mix 'kicks', I add some cabosil and paint the thickened goop onto the wood core edges of the hole.

5) When fully cured, re-install the holder and mark with a sharpie for the through bolts.

As you can see, I ended up with a large permanent core of epoxy protecting the wood, as this will be a high-stress area subject to high loads ... we hope ...

Tip: Just be sure not to 'paint' outside the flange area of the holder top with the epoxy, as you'll never get it off. I still sealed this into the washboards using LifeSeal.
