I'm interested in performing this maintenance myself this year.
Last year I diagnosed a problem that had me at the dock simply from information I gathered on here, (low pressure fuel pumps, VST screen and O2 sensor cleaning). Much of that I was able to print out step by step instructions from the 'net and had some guideance from guys on here..made it simple. I have a 1999 225 Yam, OX66 Model S225TXRX.
I have contacted Andy at SIM for a price on everything I'd need.
Do you think this is over my head? Any advice? SIM has a step by step tutorial but it's for a 4 Stroke.
What do you think? I do have 2 owners manuals with me.

No sweat!

T-Stats are simple, unbolt, remove old gasket & t-stats, pop new ones in, add new gasket, replace bolts.

Same thing on PCV. May have to unscrew computer unit on back of engine to gain access - but just unscrew it, not disconnect anything. Its a bit of a squeeze depending on your engine, but same thing, un-bolt the old one, remove gasket, spring and poppit valve, remove gasket and clean everything up. Probably don't have to replace, unless its really rusted, but you can go quite a while with just a quick cleaning every couple of years.

I'm due for both of these projects this spring, along with low pressure fuel pumps, water pump, and my usual pre-launch routine (check TPS, oil rod, O2 density sensor, clean VST filter, winky blinky, replace fuel filters, etc). I've already received my first shipment of parts from SIM, waiting on the second order of stuff I missed the first time around..

I'm also going to attempt to replace all the fuel lines from the tank to the engine and within the engine as well - my motor is a 1999 and is probably due. I had a neighbor in my marina miss most of the spring due to a similar vintage motor developing some tiny cracks in the fuel line which caused all sorts of sporadic problems that were hard to duplicate - as they manifested themselves very similarly to other common Yamaha problems. Since I'll be taking everything apart anyways, I'll have a look at the fuel rail and the fuel injector filters.

I started off doing my own maintenance slowly, building up confidence whenever I could find good info and step-by-steps online. Now I'm still cautious, but comfortable handling slightly more complicated stuff.

If you haven't found it yet, this is the best single source of info on Yamaha engines on the Internet:

Hi Tom,

You were instrumental in helping me with my problems last year (along with others) and I appreciate it. It went smoothly. I may have to replace everything instead of cleaning as everything is still original, 9 seasons...
My fault.
Still runs great, but looking to do alot more myself now. I will also be replacing my fuel lines this year (the one's on deck) exposed to salt, sun, soap, bleach, crab claws, bluefish, etc. 10th season now so I'll be changing those hoses and primer bulb.

When will you be doing yours as I think we have very similar motors.
Have a camera handy?

I'm still probably a month away, as the boating is getting soda blastd in the next week or two, then I'll be doing all of the paint (plus getting married on 4/25). I'll be lucky to get in by the end of May!
Next year though, there will be no painting necessary and I'm hoping to be in by March 1....
